Good use of staff from the BBC African service, that was always going to be one of the big advantages of Broadcasting House, though I wonder if it would have happened were it not for the strike

Opening of the News at 1, mention of the strike, and the abrupt close to the programme:

The 11am shift on the News Channel this morning presented by Sophie Long and Ben Brown with Tim Willcox in Cyprus. Will any of them continue beyond 12? I don't think Tim has presented on strikes in the past, but he might if he is on location.

Are you sure Ben Brown featured in the 11am hour?
What was the point of his presence if he was to only work for an hour - he should have done what Joanna Gosling did: take the day off.

Well he did the exact same amount as Sophie Long. In fact he was today's 'lead' presenter.

Is the lead presenter the one at the big screen on the top of the hour?
Ben Brown, I gather, must have been making up for his time in Baghdad last week by appearing today.

Eugh, he's still pretending to be an "ultra-specialised journalist" that doesn't give financial advice then...

I think the suspicions of a less-supported strike are true.

It does seem to have the hallmarks that ScotRail strike days have had in recent years - where it just so happens to give union members an extended long weekend...

74 second countdown at 5pm, they're getting longer! Don't think we've had one under a minute yet this afternoon. Still Gavin Grey at 5pm. Assuming Chris Rogers at 6.

A tweet from freelance journalist Bhavani Vadde who has presented on strike days previously suggests that BBC London News will be on at 1815.
