I am not exactly sure where this image came from but it looks to me like the London Tonight studio screen but the angle at which she is and the height suggests that she is sitting down. Can anyone shed some light on it.

It looks a bit fishy to me, it seems like the top of her hair has been cut off... Confused

Thats what I thought when I first found it. I do hope that Granada do implement this look to Granada News and Reports but only time will tell. It does need a refresh as their current studio has dated quickly.

It all looks so cheap like MDF apart from the desk.

You have to remember that the set we have was designed for the old look that was brought into use in September 2003, but that didn't last long at all, because it was crap and the generic look had to come in, so you can see Granada's POV not to change the set in any major way.

But I agree it does look very out of place now, especially when you compare it to other ITV regions. I hope Granada Reports does go the London Tonight way in the style of the set, but instead of London as the backdrop, they should get one of Manchester, I don't think a Meridian style would work well.

But if they knew in 2003 that a generic look was around the corner, I don't see any reason why they changed the set, the 2001 was very nice and IMO would have worked better with the generic look.

I'm not in favour of news being presented from a sofa / bench. But I like the London Tonight set, and I wonder what it would look like with a desk, instead of a sofa, but retaining all other features ( ie. city backdrop, plasmas etc. ). It could look quite good for Granada Reports, and other regions.

I entirely agree with this comment, it would look better with a desk in front, like the original London Today/Tonight Set, but with a clear background of Manchester.

Granada did a good job in this in the 1990's but no need for the 3 Piece Suite.

They could then have a news wall either left or right of the backdrop.

Does Granada Reports still come from the Albert DOck in Liverpool?

Granada Reports and all other Granada News updates, come from the main Quay Street studios in Manchester. This has been since September 1998 when the Albert Dock studio became the home of Shop, the ill-fated shopping channel.

Granada Tonight as it was then called, had previously returned to Manchester in November 1992.

So a new Set is on the way, will it be like the London Tonight design, and will Granada finally stop using the CSO Studio.?.

Thats the same studio which Coronation Street is filmed, does anyone know what other programmes are made at the Quay Street studios (either network or region) apart from CS and Granada Reports?
