Following the launch of sky news hd last thursday, I felt that the graphics have been downgraded, rather than upgraded. I like the use of the darker/deeper reds and blues, however there less use of 3d elements.

These mocks are just on Titles and Straps. I will upload split screens, business, sport etc later.

It's horrific. You've ignored safe areas completely.

Just because it's HD doesn't mean it doesn't need safe areas. If these graphics ended up on SD with someone with a 4:3 Screen they'd look like this:

[that image is 14:9 I think]
and there are also HD 4:3 Screens, just because it's HD doesn't mean safe areas should be totally ignored.

In this country, most/all domestic HDTVs are 16:9. Assuming the mocker is mocking what Sky have done with Sky News HD, with SD have safe graphics and HD using the full frame, then these are fine.

As for the mock, it's alright. Not too different from now but I don't like that the DOG moves up and down.

Ok, so ignoring the mock - that's horrendous. I apologise for the mocker now. What were Sky thinking? It doesn't look tidy.

Yes, it is a case of having separate HD and SD graphics like they currently do.

Where have you ever seen news graphics in this format before to compare tidyness? - I think its probably because it's a new thing, that we're not used to seeing.

How many people have 4:3 tv's now? - surely it will reach the stage where the point of safe areas becomes moot. Its nice to see Sky News blazing the trail once again when it comes to new technology. All those luddites with square tv's don't know what they're missing ^-^

I'm waiting for a CRT HD 16:9 to be released, or to get my hands on one of those Samsungs.
