A Red and Cream Tribute - BBC News 2000

Inspired by Bail's efforts, and of course the original designs... (May 2020)

So I think I have gotten this need to pay tribute to the 1999/2000 graphics for BBC News out of my system. Once again I want to thank @Bail for inspiring me to work on these, and also following his example, I recorded myself finishing the last part of the titles - taking the 3D Rendered elements, and creating a finished shot.

I've been a follower of your motion design for about 12 years now (found your YouTube via your 2008 Breakfast mock), and as usual, your efforts are astounding - truly fantastic. The additional texture and colour, particularly the tinges of purple you've given both title sequences haven't gone unnoticed and look gorgeous. The only nitpicky thing I would point out is the expansion and contraction of the red oval under the Gill '9' is quite sudden and juddery, whereas in the original it was more fluid, but in the grand scheme of things, it's a minor point in what is otherwise a masterpiece. Well done.

I find it's better to use the Adobe Creative Suite on a computer that's built to handle it, rather than attempting to use it onto an underpowered laptop. It annoys me as I pay for the whole suite and can only use Photoshop and Illustrator at home, but it gives me the motivation to scrape up some brass to build a properly powered machine!

So a little bit of information I learnt on twitter today, from the Senior Designer Nicola Mills for the original designs.

it's a bit clearer when you read the original thread on twitter. she's talking about the breakfast titles both with the fireworks and water / glitter.

fascinating although makes perfect sense that there are so many physical elements as part of the construction of the titles but you forget how long ago this actually was. it shows how incredibly ahead of their time in terms of design they were.

one thing that's not been cleared up yet however is... is the countdown meant to be sharp or blurry?

This is from Nicola Mills's website and has a clearish copy of the breakfast titles in the middle and you can clearly see the glitter now you know its there
