Now, for my first mock, I thought I'd take a look at the GMTV Weather straps and try to recreate, them, so not really a mock. Comments would be appreciated, and be brutally honest , as I don't want the kind version of comments.

Anyways, here they are...

*

I know it's the not the correct font, so...

But that's it, for now.

Not too great, have you tried doing these in Photoshop or Fireworks, they look like Paint, TBH.
However, if these were made in a better app with Anti-aliasing they would look much better.

Also, you've made the ITV Regions mistake of cutting corners off rounded rectangles, which is not how GMTV do it.

Overall 3/5 - Respectable, you've tried, which is more than others do with their mocks.

Text too big, and I'm sure GMTV use a Futura font rather than Verdana.

Not much to look at here so can't really give you any proper criticism. Perhaps try recreating some of the other on-screen graphics - taking into account the size of the text and the font used - and then post them here.

I'd have executed it differently.

I understand your comments, and will now aim to try and recreate the rest, yet I have not Futura and so cannot use it, so it lacks some authenticity, but if anyone has it...

Responding to comments, I've tried to make the straps more realistic, and have recreated the other graphics in use, mainly the Name Strap (One line and two line versions), a Live Strap, and the ticker. The font, is still wrong, but cannot be helped, as I do not have it. Anyway, here we go...

*
Above, one line Name Strap.

*
Above, two line name strap, featuring one of our very own mods.
[NB: Noticed this one is horribly un-aligned]
*
Above, live strap, featuring our twin.

*
Above, Ticker tape, featuring one line Name Strap.

*
Above, strap uses when crediting others for footage.

That's all, thank for looking, again.

Firstly, a quick Google came up with this site which has some free alternatives to Futura.

Secondly, you will be better concentrating on getting one part of your design looking great rather than producing lots of poorer graphics. If you're going to create a set of graphics, you need to concentrate on getting things consistent - font sizes, padding around the text, margins, size of the corners etc. The easiest way of doing this is to work on one part at a time and then build each graphic from a "kit of parts".

Finally, what software are you using? Those rounded corners are some of the worst I've ever seen! Even mspaint can be used to make better corners by zooming in and spending some time with the pencil tool.

The text is too big - it shouldn't fill the entire aston shape.

I don't mean to blow my own trumpet, but why not have a look at a recreation I did of the GMTV graphics last year and take some inspiration from that. Smile

(I don't know what happened to the first set of images, I used Gorilla Enterprises to upload them but that site doesn't seem to exist anymore)

Sorry to add salt into your wound, the straps need to be closer to the clock/logo. Also, there have been better versions of the logo you use posted in the request forum. (I'm sure you posted in there?) as your one has blue egding.

Thanks for comments, going back to the drawing board, but I'm determined not to just sit there and act as if this mock never happened, hope to fix it and look back soon.

That's the attitude! Thanks for sharing your mock!
