BBC Regions 1998/2008 mashup

Shall I continue with this? It started life as a white/grey 2008 mock with the map for the English Regions, but then I got bored and decided to play around with it.

Also I'm having a right mare with the place names on the cats cradle, my 3D effect just isn't working - if anyone can impart some wisdom it'd be greatly appreciated!

Well, I mean this in the nicest possible way, but it kind of looks like a scab.

It's not great. I'm guessing these are supposed to be reference to the 2000 titles. The regional titles were blue in colour and the regional outline was red and yellow. The beige and red does not work at all and trying to bring beige back in 2017 is not a great idea though I'm aware this is just for fun.

I never thought those titles were any good as it was hard to see what the 'blob' was supposed to resemble. Apart from the likes of the nations and possibly Spotlight where the outlines were instantly recognisable.

That post alone tells me all I need to know... Idea abandoned!

Don't think I was being harsh, and I didn't say there was nothing to work on. It's just the colours really - the cream looks very dated.

Just a personal thing but I hate the clutter in the bottom left. It's accurate in terms of looking like what these shows do, but I feel like they're put there for the sake of it by people who don't understand what good design is. (That's not a reference to you, that's a reference to those who make these things for real!)

Not wanting threadjack but that very much reminds me of the idea I had a while back...



Edit: And an alternate version with your colours, I think the 99 style (national) colours could work.

I'm toying with an idea for UK Today on BBC One HD now - the English region maps are too non-descript for this kind of task, and your Nations mock there shows how well the national maps work in this style.

Obviously not stealing Mikes mock but this as UK today would work, don't like my logo text though.. Happy to share source files if you wanted to play around.

At the moment I've moved away from map in isolation and I've introduced the BBC 'Global strands' orb/sphere idea in with it (it's hard to explain but it's basically two different ideas jammed together, with a less yucky beige colour!)
