BBC Rebrand Project

Here is the end result of a project I've been working on since BBC Three got its new logo in January. I've created new consistent branding that can be used across the BBC Channels. This includes logos, endboards, a new ECP design, a new menu design, BBC DOG and program credits (as well as off air branding). A big no to the logos. From left to right on the top row, all I could possibly see is Ripple BBC, Cube BBC, II! BBC and Shutter BBC.

I like most of it, BBC Two and BBC Four aren't especially strong logos though.

Really like this, you've obviously spent lots of time and effort on it. My only comment is that the CBeebies logo is a bit lazy, maybe try something completely different?

It's a nifty idea, but you can't beat a bit of text. CBeebies here being the odd one out. Thumbs up for not messing with the BBC logo. Going through the PDF, you're going to get opposition with the ECP being so small. I'd say it's an update of the present, but falls short of something totally new and fresh

I like that you are creating a stronger link between different parts of the BBC brand by using the new 'icon' theme introduced with the new BBC Three logo.

Maybe for BBC One, try and make the swirls more like the swirls currently used to make it even more recognisable: .

For BBC Two, you could bring the iconic '2' into the logo to make it recognisable. I like that you have based it on BBC Two's new slogan though - maybe add the '2' to one of the sides of the cube when the logo isn't being used for promoting programs.

For BBC News, I think the globe idea could work. Maybe try a globe icon with a thicker outline?

The quarter 'credit squeeze' idea needs to be improved. The BBC used to do something similar to your idea a while ago and they ended up scrapping it. (See https://youtu.be/uxIpu0GRQ7I?t=50s)

I like the rest of the logos a lot, especially BBC Weather It looks simplistic and clearly represents the BBC Weather brand.

BBC Settings App is my favourite.

Really liking these although I agree that some of the logos (such as the cogs) don't really tell you much.
Also not sure on the credits squeeze. The credits are far too small (especially on a smaller screen) and it looks a bit out of proportion. Apart from that though, good work Aaron.

I'm not keen on 1/2/4/Settings/weather/newss/sport/store logos, but apart from that this is really strong. Love the end boards, love the sense of consistency between channels.

It needs refinement and the logos need more thought, but I love it.

I knew I would get comments like this, just like when BBC Three got flack for its new 'BBC II!' logo.

When you look at what we might call 'iconic' logos, very few of them actually state what the service/app/company does. Using your logic: Twitter = Bird, Facebook = f, Spotify = Green circle, Nike = Tick. The BBC One logo doesn't have to state 'BBC One', because it would become well known as it is used more.

I'm not saying that the logos are faultless, just be open minded.

Thanks to both of you. Looking at the comments, the logos do need more work. BBC Parliament could do with a politics element included.

Designing a symbol for a major company like the ones you mention, and designing a symbol to represent a channel from a major broadcaster, is a different proposition in my eyes. In the UK our broadcasters have logos, sometimes stylised like Channel 4, but ultimately they still spell out the name or numeral and are not a symbol like NBC or CBS in the US.


To me it seems a bit messy to have the 'BBC' logo, which is written out, next to an incomprehensible symbol that doesn't fully reflect what the sub brand is about. Your BBC Sport logo is a good example as it seems to imply that they only cover running.

I referred to your Parliament logo as the BBC Settings App because that's what it looked like to me at first sight. Three cogs doesn't really represent parliament, they are used in the graphics but here they are detached from that context too much to really make sense.
