No, you shouldn't give up, take what people have said and suggested and work on it, even if it means starting from scratch, you could produce some stunning work if you put your mind to it - though you can't please everybody, bear that in mind!
I did mention that they were prototype ideas -- but as the response to the wider logo set itself has been overwhelmingly negative I'm not going to flog this dead horse any longer. As a concept, my idea is clearly a non starter.

The actual "BBC Radio" bit is good, it just doesn't quite work with the vast and changing array of different shaped images you have used.
The current BBC Radio logos work as they are all circles, are all single colour and are all very simple. The idea needs to be uniform across the board.
Oddly, the best ones are the BBC R3 and BBC R6 Music logos, but you've recycled them.

As Mike W says, please keep going on these. I don't like them at the moment but I'd love to see progress even if they're never 'outstanding' - I'd genuinely be very interested.

^^ Would echo this. You're mocks been rated respectable... so you should definitely continue.

Have to agree with the above comments. I'm not so sure the response has been so negative as you say; the basic design quality in itself is actually quite alright compared to much of what The Gallery has seen in the recent past, it's more a case of the ideas needing a re-work.
The revised designs tick the box for having a clear common link in the re-introduction of the circle, and are an improvement overall, but I still believe you have the right thoughts in mind about character, with the previous generation as one point of reference. Could be interesting to see a re-design taking some cues from the feedback.

I may have another bash at these shortly, but I'm not sure if/how I can reconcile everyone's ideas without coming to something as boring/corporate as the current set.
What set me off on this journey was a complete and ultimate hatred of the current Radio 2 logo - as a long time Radio 2 listener I just don't feel it does it any justice whatsoever. Similarly Five Live is completely soulless and Radio 1 is unimaginative. Perhaps I should just redesign those and leave 3, 4 and 6 alone.

Do you mean "adding" the little triangle / serif?
To be honest, I've always felt that the previous Radio 1 logo was perfect (I've said so before). Simple, but the way it was used was so perfect. And it could've stayed. Removing that little triangle ruined it and makes it look a bit too awkward.

I get you.
Well, I suppose, but I've always just viewed it as being removed because, of course, it's transparent, a hole, and more has been 'removed'.
I get you.
