ITV Theme (1989)

It's Library, by a composer called David Dundas

I'm not sure it's library, but you're right in saying it was composed by David Dundas. He also wrote Four Score (Channel 4's original theme tune).

The name of the ITV jingle is Get Ready , and was part of a Get Ready for ITV campaign when it relaunched. There is a version of the jingle that then launches into the full song. Quite a boring song, really. It's just people singing 'get ready for ITV...' but the instrumental version with only the backing vocals is fabulous.

If I'm correct, someone found it a few years/months ago on a TV themes CD, and it was marked something like 'ITV Logo'.

Little-known fact - we have to play it intravenously to Hymagumba when Metropol is broken and when Ed Welch music is in short supply. Otherwise he gets involuntary muscle spasms and starts vomiting boiled eggs.

Interesting piece of music, what was it's intended usage? For close downs, break downs or just to test out the music, anyone know?

It was used as an ident an a very short version (when I say "very short", I mean i) for the ITV during 1989-1999. It was rarely used after 1994-1995 and was succeded by the "TV fro the heart" idents.
