Being a fan of the old virtual studio, I thought I'd have a go at tweeking it and it's graphics. Here's what I came up with:

http://www.warwick.ac.uk/~csucbj/TV/titleb.jpg

The Six O'Clock opening and music* would be used for all long bulletins, but the colours of the studio and graphics would still change depending on the time of day (10pm colours shown).

For short bulletins, only the globe would be shown, fading to the newsreader. The music would be the same as used for pre-1993 short bulletins **

http://www.warwick.ac.uk/~csucbj/TV/title24b.jpg
Similar titles would be used on News 24, but with the newsroom visible on the background.

Studio design. Similar insets would be used on News 24 - note the newsroom is still visible

Example graphics.

Interviews would use split screen graphics, rather than plasma screens.

The Furgus bit would be done in a seperate virtual studio, and would look similar to this. Peter Snow would also live here during elections.

News 24's clock and DOG

http://www.warwick.ac.uk/~csucbj/TV/braking.jpg
Info strap and breaking news strap with N24 clocks and DOGS

Name strap with a BBC1 bulletin "Live" DOG. It can be laid on top of an info strap, which can in turn be laid on top of the full screen graphics

So, what do you think?

Can't help but notice the irony...

Constructive criticism would be nice...

Well I like them very much. I did very much like the pre-corporate look, with the very glorious music instead of the totally overused National News and News 24 themes now.

More constructive?

The word inane means 'lacks substance'

If you had considered my comment more deeply, rather than adopting a knee-jerk defensive stance, you may have realised this was indeed a constructive criticism - made concisely.

I find it hard to believe that if they had not gone with the corporate look we have now, they would of stuck with an incorrect and old Logo, and they would continue using that look. Surely they would of rebranded using a different look evolving the virtual look!

And very generally, which isn't very helpful.

MDTA:
I don't follow you when you say the old BBC logo was "incorrect", but why the need to rebrand at all? I can understand tweaking a brand to keep it up to date, but surely brands are stronger when they have lasted a long time - see Channel Four's logo and ITN/V News at Ten's bongs, and compare it too whatever Channel Five's brand is at the minute.

Am I the only one who didn't like the whole virtual studio thing?
Whilst currently BBC NEWS pres. is hardly amazing, it is at least a lot more modern and brighter than this.
It's...depressing. It seems like an oxymoron, but its making the news seem too serious, and cold. Blue seems like a newsy sort of colour, but doesn't mean it should be.
Interesting to see how it would have looked today - so technically good.

Well you have used the old 1993 logotype on the Images, which was replaced with the 1997 logo until BBC News went corporate in 1999.

But also, I seriously doubt that they would continue to use the 1993 look until 2003. Even if they didnt use the corporate look from 1999, there would be some sort of revamp!
