I have been working on these quite a while now, they took forever but in order to perfect them its taken a while

What my point in these is to make it look more professional; to develop a logo which would be used universally in RTE News; bring their graphics into the 21st Century aswell as the news service (which I obviously couldnt mock up)

Great stuff as always SNI!

I love this aston - when you compare it with the current dross it makes you cringe!

Very sophisticated and elegant. The black/extremely dark blue is a nice touch.

Only thing is, I'm just not sure of the whole blue thing. By all accounts what you've done is stunning, as are the shades of blue used - just that at this stage RTÉ has been using blue-dominated schemes for bordering on ten years now. Personally I've got very tired of it, especially in astons, so it's nice to see there's not too much in yours.

But blue titles and graphics to me is just more of the same. By all accounts you scheme is usable as a great package for any news service but just don't think RTÉ, simply because they've been using the same old colours for too long.

Also (to pick holes again Smile), the satellite imagery at the start as you say is a little too like Sky News. Ireland, as a small country, and a country washed with foreign media more than most, needs a distinctive identity for its flagship news service.
The earth at the start, and then the closer satellite comes accoss as a bit generic, and too similar to Sky for my liking. But as everyone says, an absolutely stunning mock and so very professional - it could be adopted in the morning if necessary.

Personally I'd like to see an RTÉ scheme with a deep elegant green as the base colour and not blue - not just because it's the national colour, but because it looks great on screen. Sky stole blue a long time ago now, which forced British stations to look elsewhere for their base colours. RTÉ kept with it, but has manged to stay fairly distinctive.
But with any up coming revamp, graphics are going to be brought up to date in a way similar to SNI, with thin white line edging etc, as graphics seem to be going these days. So there's a risk that RTÉ will end up floating too close to Sky....

Great package overall - I love the way the RTÉ logo fits any scheme perfectly. It's a beautiful piece of design; it was given a surprisingly poor review in The Sunday Times by its design columnist shortly after it was launched all those years back. I fail to see why, it's a design classic, especially when executed in white - on a par with the BBC's.

I agree. It's timeless. Hard to believe its 10 years old now. It could be used for another 10 and still look fresh.

Great mocks SNI. Really suitable for RTÉ but just too like SN. Well done.

Any word on RTÉ's news relaunch? Are we expecting Jan 1st or a few months after?

Hopefully it'll be January 1st - that's what I'm betting on anyway!
Hard to believe that scheme is 2 1/4 years old now.
Sincerely hope Prime Time get a desperately needed overhaul too - if ever there was a case of a presentation package going from bad to worse with a relaunch, PT was it in 2003. And at this stage, they don't even have a look anymore - the 'presentation' differs from edition to edition!

Just noticed your clever little device SNI of turning the 'News' in the aston into 'LIVE' - very nice.

Also avoids having to put it up as an annoying little tag at the top of the screen. Even then I don't think it should be used for most broadcasts anyway; it's fine for coverage like Budget proceedings, or coverage of a live event of some kind, but it just looks ridiculous for standard link-ups with correspondents and reporters. These are well executed. They are highly readable, the design is cohesive, and brand is extended throughout.

In short, they look darn good. I'd love to see more of these.
