Need to see more for a proper judgement, but unsure of purple for a newscast and not sure whether the right is a good alignment for an Anglophone news channel. So far, 2/4 - will improve with a better idea of what you are trying to achieve.
To improve, I'd suggest moving the graphics down a little. Also add a ticker and use a different colour instead of purple for the strap. Maybe add a few more 'americanised' type gradients and some shadows of the NBC logo, like the current straps?
There really nice though, as I said, I'd like to see more.
Why should it have to be 'American'? That's not much of a legitimate complaint IMO. Especially because I haven't seen one 'American' news presentation that I like. This isn't bad, though I feel like the strap intrudes too much into the screen.
I had an idea almost exactly the same as this (using different spectra colors for different types of news stories) but executed a bit differently. I've never been happy with it though.
