Perhaps, at the time (October), they were unaware such a version existed, or they used the first version they came by / that was closer to hand.
It's possible that they thought with the programmes being in 4:3 it fit with the strand and was just incorrectly flagged (and so broadcast stretched). Although as the retro idents from the 70s and 80s were recreated in widescreen, this would be strange.
I think they just cocked up.
