Oddly they didn't seem to be being used as idents last week - usually short stings before a regular ident. As they went to the bother of creating them I thought it was odd so maybe they've now been rebadged as proper idents?
Also did anyone catch the nice announcement from Duncan Newmarch at the very end of the birthday night? Basically saying 'here's to the next fifty' and name checking the directors on that day over the regular Mirror ident used at the start of the trailerfest.

Yes - the sequences seem to make for perfectly good idents, so not sure why they weren't used in this way from the 20th... Nice to see these properly, instead of merely the sting-length versions.

I notice this isn't being shown in 4:3. I wonder if it isn't possible for BBC Two to broadcast 4:3 (even if only on SD) and HD at the same time.
Yes, it was pillarboxed into a 16:9 active frame (12P16). It's pointless transmitting 4:3 active frame (12F12) on HD, as all HD displays are 16:9. However anyone watching in SD with a STB set to letterbox feeding a 4:3 display, would have seen the film as a postage stamp image, not very clever !
Fairly obvious, I guess - a black and white film gets a black and white trailer...

Seems to be for the start of Giro d'Italia in Belfast from Friday:

Does anyone know why BBC 2 Northern Ireland has been using pink boxes on the idents all day today, instead of green?
NI doesn't appear to have been using the 50th birthday idents today either (unlike the other nations).

The pink logos have cropped up on trails for the event as well.
In the BBC TWO NI listings tonight is a 5-minute mini-programme - or perhaps a long promo, depending on how you look at it - behind the scenes of BBC News NI Weather, on after Newsnight.

The Titanic ident on NI now has a pink filter around the '2' hole.
As has been mentioned, the BBC2 NI idents' box logo has been getting the pink treatment since Wednesday, due to Giro d'Italia in Belfast.
