Don't want to sound rude or irritating but can we try not to descend this thread into a rota-esque topic? As in, not post that an ident is played when it's been played numerous times before? I'm enjoying looking through this thread but I'm sure many will find it tiresome if the majority of posts are no longer noteworthy.

I can see your point, and I understand where your coming from. I agree most including myself, hate rota-esque topic.
When it comes to this duck ident, as far as I know, today is its first outing on the network. Its been noted, “Duck” was introduced on 21 July 2014 in Northern Ireland, for that reason only I thought it would be helpful to keep track off its use for the first day. We know its a regular now, and not just a one off. Also would this be the other unnamed one network was planning to use?

I did do this myself when Predator and Swan came back a few weeks ago but now I just do it the once because I'm sure users on here will get to see it many times before January next year!
I would guess how an ident looks in widescreen has to be a factor in deciding what they can use as presumably all the pre-1997 ones and maybe some of the later ones were made in 4:3.

I would guess that everything from 1997 presentation wise across the BBC was made in widescreen.
