About the special football ident...

When BBC Two announced the release of the new idents, they also mentioned in the INITIAL press release that the best mock idents will be used....

However, they removed that part in the revised press release few hours later.... in hopes that people won't make really outrageous idents to be shown on the TV....

Just wanted to let you know that... (my friend works for the BBC, and he told me all about the new idents, but I couldn't let the details out until the idents came out, but that was the initial plan for the BBC Two, so I'm not surprised that they used the mock ident on MOTD2.)

Crikey - And I was under the impression that it was part of the original set, as there's actually more than one version of this Tagging theme. But, if it definitely is a citizen ident, it'd show they do accept public submissions to air on the channel; I didn't think that was the case at all.

Reboot
It wasn't - the original announcement was for seven idents, averaging two versions of each, remember? Tagging/Football's the eighth separate ident.

If that's the best of a bad bunch then, maybe it's understandable.

If live action from citizens often comes across as a bit amateurish I'm surprised no-one's done a previous-era style 3-D CG '2' ident yet, to see how it fares.

  • Chase stings (3) [at least, as spotted by another member but I've only seen one!]

You might catch a few chase stings at 7:30 before the Golf on BBC 2 NI Wink

Works rather well when you put them in sequence, doesn't it?

I've sort of glued them together here in the order they were shown, plus the ident.

NB: The sting where he is drinking from the river is separate to the part where he leaves the river - how I've joined them in the edit looks like it's all one sequence, but it's two stings, honest! Laughing

Nice bit of glue work Paul, even I had trouble spotting the joins.

As far as I am aware the Tagging idents are not 'citizen idents', as they were made, like all the others, before the BBC 2 rebrand took place.

Is there a short version of Sunroof? I'm sure I've seen a version with a bit of the music's intro chopped off and the animation starting within around one and a half seconds.

NI has a few self-made short versions, Sunroof being one.

I noticed NI used the Tagging Football symbol again, albeit ahead of the U-19 Rugby...

And I think someone said a while back about the shape of the '2' being changed on Mirror, but as far as I'm aware it hasn't been changed.

Just caught that particular variant before N24, then!

All the short ones i have seen don't have very good start points (at an odd point that makes the ident sound like it skips, instead of starting spot-on one of the beats/notes) compared to the old Lambie-Nairn yellow 2s short versions. But I suppose these being self-made would explain that somewhat.

But I saw this one on Network. Could Sunroof have been revised in a similar way to Car from the 91-01 set and had a bit chopped off from the beginning?

No, you wouldn't have seen that one on Network at all. As was said, it is self-made by NI.

The one you saw on Network may well have been cut-down, but only by a second or two as you have said.

This is completely different to NI's version which has several more seconds chopped off the start.

NI is therefore editing their versions separately from the Network.

IMO this shows that the Irish should be put in charge of BBC Presentation...
