Laura Kuenssberg had a pretty strong debut presenting Newsnight last night I thought. While I can't judge whether she is, and will be, a better fit than Gavin Esler, her appointment is a strong one in its own right.
Apparently Newsnight had a piece tonight about the children of injured soldiers - taken from Newsround!
In the words of the Deputy Editor, the material and production was "so good we nicked it". That can't happen to often.
Would be interesting to know whether they played the Newsround package as is or re voiced it or incorporated it into a longer package etc.
Watched it on iPlayer (around 30 mins in), the clip shown was the two children talking to camera, no reporter or voice over just them and graphics. It really was good. It was introduced as the BBC's Children's programme and strapped as news round.
It was followed by an studio interview with a retired brigadier.
The actual report was from a newsround special broadcast on the 26th.
Newnight bolstering its investigations post-Savile/McAlpine by appointing Nick Hopkins as its Investigations Correspondent.
Hopkins was previously defence and security correspondent/Investigations Editor at Ian Katz' old paper, The Guardian, and has worked with the Edward Snowden story.
Newsnight got a rebrand last night... albeit temporarily.
Following the BBC's Day of the body clock and how blue light keeps us awake - the logo and studio was turned yellow and orange with a chance to hear the wonderful lizard lounge sax version of the closing theme. Splendid effort!

Saw this the other night as well and have to agree - a great idea for the close!
