BBC Northern Ireland 90th Anniversary presentation

BBC ONE NI used the 'Skateboarders' ident from the Dancers era into Strictly. BBC TWO NI used Garden into Gardeners' World.

...and a lovely montage of idents and announcements before it - even Choice Northern Ireland! Is it nonstop retro idents all the way now then? Looking forward to seeing that balloon back on air.

Indeed; I rewound to watch the montage a second time. Chills of nostalgia seeing and hearing those idents... Great sequence.

Dad's Army, Casualty and QI are the next special junctions - so I've been told...!

BBC TWO NI used the mock-up 1964 ident into Dad's Army.

BBC ONE NI used the eighth Irish ident from the Balloon era into Casualty.

Still so beautiful 17 years after debuting.

Not sure whether the mass use of old idents is a celebration or just highlighting the fact that today's presentation is just rather tired.

The montage is great but just playing out the old idents, especially if it's for a full week, does feel a bit lazy. At least BBC2 has an updated logo which kind of justifies it (though it'll surely confuse viewers switching from celebrating 50 years to 90 years).

BBC2 NI showed Glass (widescreen), before QI:XL. Fabulous!
