I've just seen the IKEA Happy to Bed-time advert during Home for the Holidays, but the time was a good 5 minutes behind. Is the time set by a Channel 4 clock, or is it selected and placed manually?
The programme was probably running late. and the advert was entirely pre-recorded, clock included.

I watched yesterday and it was again five minutes late. I'll never shop at IKEA again. Not that I ever did, mind...

I'd guess the ads are based on 10pm shows beginning at 10pm - but usually on C4 they begin around 10.04pm.

That would make sense.

You should have heard the announcer this morning going into Music on 4 at 1.05.

Has anyone heard the odd announcements for the Simpsons all this week? They seem to have been referring to it as everything other than its real name.

Yes, "Now on Channel 4, It's the cheese and onion" is what I heard. I thought I was missing a joke somewhere. I didn't realise they were doing it all week.

They are still doing it. "Action adventure with Bart and Lisa in the lead. The Pimpsons on 4."

I don't get it, but I do find it interesting.

They called it the Flintstones the other day too

Couple of Channel 4 items to mention. Last night they had a promo that featured some of Channel 4's best loved presenters (Derren Brown, Rachel Riley and George Lamb to name three) on a tube train. The camera panned along the carriage and the train's public address system reminded passengers to not do various things while on the train. It ended with a 'Happy New Year' message. I saw this twice on Channel 4 last night, they could probably get away with showing it for the first week of January too. It seems a lot of effort to just show it on one evening.

In other news, I'm not sure when it started but I first noticed it sometime after Christmas, Channel 4 Racing can now shrink their pictures in to a small window at the top right of the screen (well out of the 4:3 safe area) and put an advert for Betfair towards the bottom left of the screen (which does seem to be 4:3 safe) Above the advert it says "Channel 4 Racing continues in 30" which counts down as the advert is played.

The live pictures just show a long shot of some horses walking about, so they wouldn't really lose anything if they just went to a 30 second advert break that took up the whole screen as per normal. Although I guess they would then have to show a Channel 4 break bumper and the sponsorship sting so a 30 second break may end up being nearer 45 seconds long. The advert itself doesn't mention any live prices so I assume it goes out an hour later on Channel 4+1 in the same way. The advert isn't subtitled but the coverage either side of it is.

And finally, may I be the first TV Forum member to wish all the horses a very happy birthday for today.

I've seen this practice on a German quiz show in the past. The advert plays and in the corner you see the contestant and host chatting.

Sounds like it was the same stuff as the ad shown on the London Underground digital advert panels last night:

Yes, or at least very similar. I'm guessing the versions on the tube didn't have audio though. I wonder if all three versions were broadcast on Channel 4 last night too. I only saw the one before the terrible Alan Carr programme and the very end of one earlier in the day.
