I reckon that was a pointed swipe at the ITV weather dollies, rather than the Met Office employed Beeb staff.


I'm not so sure - not all of the Beeb's weather presenters are Met Office trained forecasters - the profiles of Carol Kirkwood and possibly Louise Lear on the BBC Weather website seem to gloss over Met Office forecaster training.

In the regions, the likes of Paul Hudson, David Braine, Kaddy Lee-Preston, Derek Brockway, Richard Angwin and Paul Mooney seem to be the exception to the rule.

What is particularly impressive is that unlike most good looking weather presenters, Laura is a "proper" meteorologist, rather than being a mere presenter who has had some brief training to be able to sound like they know what they're talking about when presenting a forecast prepared by somebody else.

Apparently she has a degree in Physics and Meteorology and following training at the Met Office had the job of briefing the incredibly lucky pilots at RAF Brize Norton. One can imagine that they may have had similar problems in concentrating on the forecast as you have.



I wonder if she was ever in a uniform?

Anyway, here on BBC World, we have been seeing a rather new weather lady this week, and who has a double-barrel surname. I cannot remember now what it is (although I remembered for days before posting this), but one of the barrels is Keith, I think.

Well, let's just say that the lady looks remarkably familiar from tv, but the name isn't. Can anyone help me out in putting this jigsaw together? By the way, she is slim and blond and kinda looks too healthy to be working at the BBC. LOL. (Joke.)

Is it Sarah Keith-Lucas? She was mentioned several pages back in this thread for having done a forecast on BBCi here in the UK.

Yes, Sarah Keith-Lucas. That's her. Although not listed on the Weather homepage posted by Flaziola, above, she is listed (minus foto) in today's presentation team.

The "digital" teletext service replacing Ceefax on the digital versions of the BBC's domestic channels, formerly called BBCi and accessed by pressing the red button. There's a quarter-screen video forecast on the "news multiscreen" that's updated regularly.

I don't know whether she's done it before, but ITV Wales' Ruth Wignall did the ITV West & Westcountry weather today. She only used the pan-regional map (no zoom in's on the respective old regions), but considering how Wales and the West were a dual region once upon a long ago I thought it was cool to see someone present from one part of the former HTV region present to the other. Smile

I checked the ITV Regional weather this afternoon, and things were a litle bit topsy turvy. Shocked Martyn Davies did the Meridian Weather, but he did the Anglia Weather too! In addition ITV West & Westcountry's Alex Beresford did the London Weather today. Other regions I noticed were normal or had recognised substitutes (YTV had Alex Watson) but Anglia and London were sights I'd never properly seen before. Surprised

It tends to happen here 'oop North from time to time, Granada's Fred Talbot has been on Central the odd time, Central's Emma Jesson has appeared on Granada several times, it's also normal for some of the Yorkshire team to appear on Granada.

I think it was easier when they had the Granada/Yorkshire/Tyne Tees/Border weather presenters based at Leeds. Rolling Eyes

Emma Jesson works freelance these days, hence her swapping between Granada and Central (and Wales?)-- she also forecasts for C4 racing too!
