I've been here long enough to know that there alway be silly new forum members who irritate the rest of the group; that's a given in any forum. Recently I think this has started to get out of hand.

In the case of user GMTV; a shaved monkey could see that he is a spam merchant, and a slightly more intelligent primate could spot that he is also the user UKTV GAMES. Sourceless fantasty has been the basis of nearly every thread this user (in various guises) has come up with.

The 1 minute time difference between those two posts, and no link to a reliable source makes me very dubvious of there being a Sky Four. If this does turn out to be true then by all means start a new thread about it when it is confirmed (with link to source).

As for train pictures it is probably up to Asa whether these sort of pics will result in action being taken. However I will say that these sort of pictures are affecting threads and resulting in them being locked, more than when posts of dubvious sources are made.

Until then this thread is locked.

I find it very unfair that we are being told that the use of the train picture is *causing* a problem here, when it is patently obvious the train image is being used as a RED LIGHT to yet another trolling fantasy session.

Of those who use the train in this way, I would have thought their posting record speaks for itself. They are not the problem, it is those they are responding to who are, frankly, spoiling the forum for the majority of long time users. For the modertators not to make this distinction is deeply frustrating.

Yes of course the Report This Post function should be used, but sometimes in addition to that, the long-time membership feel they have a right to respond on the board, publicly. The train is effective in saying, "here's another one" to the rest of the membership, and as such I think it's use shouldn't be sneered at, but understood. (Not least by that bbcworld2005 person who seems to miss the point every time).

And as I can't say it in the now closed thread, could action PLEASE be taken regarding the member GMTV. At the very least examine his post history and that of UKTV GAMES and look for the repetative behaviour. Surely he should be banned?

I know Asa doesn't like threads on the subject of TV Forum (and I do understand why for the most part); but the recent influx of barely literate and pointless users is really starting to turn me off this place. I would urge that this thread is at least responded to by the management before it is locked. Thanks.

The train..... ahh what a crap idea to post a train everytime that a n00b posts something stupid or sometimes when someone disagrees with a post.
But the thing is people do it... it is stupid and the posting of trains is trolling, aka trying to cuase a argument. Why not just post that this post is **** and shouln't of been posted and or report the post.

exactly - i don't know about other members but during the time i have spent here i have found the report a post feature wholly inefficient and a waste of time, so i no longer bother. while i do not post trains, i can wholly understand why others do!

the mods are far more interested in crucifying, chastising and mothering long-term members rather than nipping trolls in the bud. the only explanation for it is they get more of a power trip buzz from the former, whilst the latter is too mundane, and probably doesn't affect them in the closed, insular, incestuous world of the bbc world - putting news first thread.

there is a trolling problem which IS irritating and impeding our enjoyment of the forum, meanwhile him upstairs is tweaking around with the design of the forum and charlie is locking threads that threaten to break out into a debate that consists of more than one paragraph per post.

Clearly it would be rather too good luck if this happened but I think all of the following members are in need of bannings

--> BBCworld2005
--> Greg
--> gum boy
--> josh205
--> wells
--> gmtv
--> too many more to mention

There are also others - like B0l l0X and GregMC - but they fit into the category of "bores", not "trolls".

Why can't TVF have a voting system where if you're voted below 3 points you get banned or something! Why give all the power to a small number of power-clenching moderators? How did charlie wells get chosen? All interesting questions, but no answers...

Why should I be banned cdd?

so then you must be on that list somewhere cdd? and you dont have any right to call me a troll. im not one of them.

This whole forum needs a clear out.

Report A Post is the most useless feature ever which is only used properly when luxton reports something that he does not like (for example, anything after 1975 or a post that has not been edited 40 times minimum)

There does need to be a considerable clearout on this place though. Maybe we should have troll idol where the seniors can choose which morons can be got rid of next.

I vote for Charlie Wells.

I agree with (nearly) everything Gavin, tvmerica, cdd and Hyma has said. It is getting to the point that long-standing members (who have done a heck of a lot for the forum over the years) are not getting treated very well, compared to the newer members who are practically getting kissed.

I don't mind Charlie being a mod, I have nothing personally against him, but I just feel that something isn't right!

Maybe we should have this campaign start again...

This is also my current perception, as may well have been gleaned from some of my recent posts.

The situation on here is now very similar to the "political correctness gone mad" situation out in the real world.

The moderators here appear to be bending over backwards to support the dullards, the dyslexic, the retarded and the ignorant, at the expense of the more intelligent members who now get little or no support, and regular criticism if they so much as dare to make a comment on one of the former category.

That is exactly why I gave up trying to draw attention to the threads started by these lesser mortals, in any other way than simply publishing a picture of a train. My hope in publishing a picture of a mode of transport was that they might just understand that the implied second word was "off".

Gavin mentioned at the top of this thread the matter of cause and effect. It should be obvious to everyone that the idiotic threads from morons are clearly the cause in this argument and the pictures of trains are simply an effect.

To attack the effect, rather than the cause never gets anyone anywhere, in life, or on an internet forum.

The cause of the problem, the moronic idiots, need to be culled if we are to retain any form of intelligent intercourse in this place; that is, of course, unless the administrator and moderators really do want to reduce all discussions here to the lowest common denominator, with no intelligent input and every post badly constructed, mis-spelled and mainly consisting of "txt spk".

Our administrator has made it pretty clear in the past, that he wants this place to be "open to all". In the past, however, we have been lucky enough to have a clear majority who have the power of intelligent discussion, with only a relatively small number of idiots on board.

A decision now needs to be made, and published, so if the current, perceived, policy of supporting the fools, to the detriment of the huge band of loyal members, is to be the future norm for this place, then those of us who delight in intelligent discussion can make our own decisions on a future home.

The obvious problem is that there is nothing in the t&c's that can be used against these crappy posters.

So some new conditions should be added to catch them out, without going down the line of 'I don't like that member so I'm going to ban them'

May I be the first of the moderators to dip my toe in this thread so to speak.

It can be tough and I must admit I don't get oodles of time to moderate anymore (Did I in the first place you may ask!!) and half my problem is I don't go in the crap threads which is where most of the problems are.

Moderating should be a clear cut process but when you've got four people doing the same thing with hopefully the same aim then you don't always agree.

At the end of the day, I see it as a forum and not too much of a serious thing but like the rest of you I can't abide the idiots that seem to come along and take the piss.

It's probably too little too late but I can only offer that I will ban anyone who looks to be a prat or gets enough complaints - and that's a personal invitation for anyone (including trolls, idiots and dyslexics) to PM and tell me why they have a problem with a particular member.

I do take notice of Report A Post and it does largely work - I'd urge everyone to use it as it makes the top of the forum (or at least a bit of it) go red so I go and read it.

I'm not ideal but I am here to represent the people. Give me a chance.

Perhaps they should have a box above the place where you write your message ^^^^^ saying that you should write properly and stick to the forum rules.

Perhaps it should be a condition of the rules that all posts are written using proper English as best you can and that and that errors should be limited where possible - and using any form of text speak should be banned outright and a warnable offence. Sounds a tad drastic, but the linguistic abilities of certain new members seem rather lacking.

OK, the last one might be a slip of the keyboard, but I'm tired and can't be ar$ed to go looking for more posts by new members.

Whilst I don't profess to be gramatically and lexically perfect in every post, I do try my best to write clearly and properly, but some people seem to think because they're writing on forum that ALL forms of punctuation, grammar and spelling should go out the window or that it's OK to write parts of/their entire message in text speak. The latter are the types I have an axe to grind with.
