The reason is that the IOC-COI (like the UN) has 2 official languages: English and French. In the games they always use the country´s official language, english and french.

Is there also an embargo in the UK where none of the other news organizations are not allowed to use Olympic footage 24 hours after it's shown on official broadcasters? Or can Sky and ITN just pluck footage off BBC and use it later on in the day?

The astons are alright but not as good as Nagano. Has anyone got any caps of them (Nagano) because they really were lovely.

I have noticed that there is like a secret network, with only the approved broadcasters (ie ones that have the rights) can only show the olympics.  Noticed that the only network I saw showing something was FOX News and they had NO audio and there was a massive caption saying: NBC Olympics . I have also noticed that all internet things have a caption over them saying that it connot be viewed due to rights.

Lillehammer and Nagano graphics were best.

Not even an attempt at a fake studio this time

And the IOC will only sell broadcasting rights to free network TV to allow the most number of people to see them

I don't really know why they also use French. My theory is that the French are lazzy arrogant asses who don't want to learn any other language. Hm. Sounds like the Americans a bit too...

Oi Alek! I live in France (where I teach English, by the way), and it's all lies!!! Razz: Lovely people - well, except for the smelly old fat ba***rds who sit unfortunately near you in cafés and let their enormous dogs urinate on your feet... Wink Still, you can't slag off a country where you can buy a bottle of wine for 90p!

Seriously though, I've always wondered why they use French too!

It's an international event, and French is probabley the third widest spoken language in the World

Obviously, it has nothing to do with most president of the IOC being French or of a French speaking country.
