It is with great pleasure (?) that I can announce the appearance, a few moments ago, of a UTV trailer whose endboard animates in the current ITV1 style (with the UTV logo on the left, obviously). Even the font is correct too (so that'll last a few weeks). The background has falling snowflakes - so that's their Chrimbo look then.

The promo was for tonight's I'm a Celebrity... Coming Out. Unfortunately I was having my errr.... breakfast at the time... so no caps, sorry. You'll just have to take my word for it!

...and another for the X-Factor, this time in the other ITV1 style with the logo in the bottom left corner.

I really should've captured that... Rolling Eyes

Oooh, UTV have Helvetica Bold Condensed Smile

Next thing they will have ITV1-style idents... or maybe that's on hold until the New Year.

I hope they have a festive IVC backdrop in store for Christmas.

We can start a new Christmas game. It's called UTV Fridge Magnets.

You've probably seen those boxes of fridge-magnet words with which you can hilariously create sentences and phrases. Well I reckon they have one of those in the UTV Office and all their continuity announcements are created from it.

I'll start us off...

From what I saw, no, and rubbish looking too.

The quick look that I got was a light blue background with 2D snowflakes spining and falling, it looks nothing in comparison like last years, especially as the background is light. We may have daylight hours over Christmas, but a lot of the day is still dark, so why is the background light? It looks rubbish anyway. They may have another element like 3D characters (if only!), but who knows!

They could bring Barney and Busker back again...

Barney & Busker, sorry for my ignorance, but can you please explain who they are?

I have to do this at work as well...

Barney and Busker (a bear and a dog respectively) are two clay-mation characters who first appeared on UTV in their 1997 Christmas idents, produced by a local guy whose name I can't remember.

Anyway, their escapades were so popular a few animations featuring the pair were shown over the years, usually in place of vacant ad slots, and in 2000 the pair became UTV's birthday mascots (the slot is called "Busker and Barney's Birthday Greetings from Space") and appeared in a collection of 3 minute segments along with pictures of children celebrating their birthday - don't compare it to Puffin, as the same film is shown for around three days in a row and there's no presenter or voiceover.

I find many of the characters in Busker and Barney quite disturbing.

Yes, especially the rip-off Barry White walrus thing, not really suitable for kids I thought.

Come to think of it, most of the other characters in those films are rip-offs; there was one with a Bob the Builder parody and another that used a soundalike of a Five song.
