UTV rebrands to match ITV

Northern Irish broadcaster UTV is to be rebranded to become more consistent with its parent broadcaster ITV.
UTV said the “brand new fresh look” would ensure the channel sat cohesively as part of the ITV portfolio, as it revealed it would also be updating UTV’s Live News identity.
The brand refresh was undertaken by ITV Creative and the UTV creative team and will go live on 17 October.
UTV creative director Trevor McCormick said the rebranding heralded “an exciting chapter for UTV”.
“Our idents and promos now use the same colour picking technique which has worked so well for ITV, making the brand and content feel connected,” he added.

Separately UTV has also appointed Terry Brennan head of its news and programmes.
Brennan, who was formerly head of news at ITV Anglia, will have overall responsibility for UTV’s news and local programming output throughout Northern Ireland.
UTV managing director Michael Wilson said Brennan “had a proven track record in programme-making, journalism and editorial leadership”.
Wilson added: “He will be responsible for both ensuring the high quality of our news output and for driving our news and local programming content forward.”

I had thought that the new U(tv) logo didn't lend itself to the colour-picker approach as it only has two physical parts (whereas the "itv" logo is of course 7 colours at any one moment, as it is divided into 6 sections plus the dot). But it looks to me like each of those two parts may have a gradient, so the logo can actually be at least four colours at once rather than just two.

I would say with the confirmation from BBC Radio Ulster, it is only a interum logo and therefore when transferred over to the new premises will then exit Stage right the UTV logo and Enter Stage left ITV logo/branding

That report is pretty much a cut and paste of what ITV have said every time a regional centre has been moved to a shed in a business park. Farewell another regional service.
