Not sure if anyone has mentioned it or not, but it looks like UTV Live is coming from a CSO setup now (albeit quite a good one). They had a couple of different shots in use last night (such as a stand-up one at the start of the programme, and then ones sat at the desk for later on), but one of the presenters had a bit of an outline around them, along with a green tinge.

I think it would help the transition if the TV part of the logo wasn't in a circle and appeared at normal size beside the U. Then it would just be a case of the U disappearing and the I taking over when the time comes to go full ITV.
So I take it they're not planning on moving out anytime soon?
I think it's more the case that these things take time to iron out.
I don't like the new logo. The colour and the size of it doesn't look right. At least it's an update but I hope we don't have to look at it for too long.

The whole thing reminds me of the 'knocked up in an afternoon' 1998 Tyne Tees ident.
I'm not sure the existing UTV logo took any more than an afternoon to knock up, and it lasted fifteen years! (more if you count the year or so it was used for UTV Internet before the rest of the group adopted it).
obviously it's a compromise and therefore isn't the best thing in the world. But I don't really see how you could do any better. The previous logo was hardly memorable was it?

As someone else has pointed out, the transitions used across the ITV channels are all based on the tittle of the 'i', so perhaps it was designed with this in mind.

All true enough, but really we should expect more from one of the largest TV companies in Europe, as opposed to one of the smallest regionals on the network.
The fact that this is so obviously a transitional identity demonstrates that UTV as a brand, and any remaining distinctiveness associated with it, will be gone in short order. It'll limp on until they can get rid of the building and then ITV NI will be reduced to a single, small studio operation in an industrial estate, with all non-news programming (such that it will be) produced by independents.

A good point, though I must admit I always thought this would work better, and mean a better transition, where the set up switched - a 'u' in the circle and the 'tv' bit full-size.
