I know it is not important in current circumstances but thought the forum would find it interesting. Currently on the Loose Women repeat the itv dog is on the programme meaning the UTV dog is overlapping.

Loose Women today on UTV, and its got the ITV dog again.

I think I have worked out the reason why, and my guess is due to the basic setup of the UTV playout system at redbee in London. (Is it defo redbee who plays UTV out?...happy to be corrected).

Due to the show now requiring the 'This is a repeat' caption to be displayed throughout the whole episode, UTV are playing out the core ITV London feed in order to have this caption displayed on screen.

Over on STV, they still have a clean feed of Loose Women, so can still use the STV dog, and the 'This is a repeat' caption is in STV blue where as the ITV feed is displaying a Grey repeat caption box.

UTV's basic playout setup really must be super basic and done on the cheap by ITV, hence UTV cant do credit squeeze, cant display 'next captions' like ITV does, and in situations like we are now in with Loose Women, cant display the 'This is a repeat' caption.

I suspect the end credits on Loose will be a dogs dinner going forward with the credit squeeze and continuity of the ITV announcer verses the Pre recorded end credit announcements recorded by Gillian/Julian in Belfast played out over the top of each other.

Well Julian is 68 years old, previous heart condition, so probably wise he does not travel to the booth in Belfast to record links.

Gillian still on air this evening, she will have recorded announcements for the rest of Wednesday up until the 7pm link on Thursday, then Julian usually records on a Thursday for announcements from 7:30pm onwards on Thursday evenings so I expect the main ITV announcer from 7:30pm tomorrow.

Doesn't make much sense really, if they wanted to retain the perception of localness then the voiceovers could be done from home.

There'll still be a UTV variant of ITV coming out of Chiswick, doesn't take fewer people to playout if there's different branding

UTV won't be back

What about UTV opt outs from the ITV network? 8:30pm tomorrow for example? Will we get a UTV ident with ITV announcer?

I just hope once all this is over, ITV don't use this as a way of getting rid of the UTV brand all together.

Indeed, I believe ITV Wales used that set up between 2002-2006

My eyes rolled so hard reading this I almost detached my retinas.

Talking about wanting to retain a perception of localness as if it's even going to be a discussion in these circumstances.

They're not going to be kitting Julian and Gillian's homes out with voiceover equipment and giving any additional training required at this time. The idea this would be considered anywhere near essential is absolutely ridiculous.

Simplifying the network temporarily seems like a sensible idea to me. It's not like we're saying BBC Two Wales/NI won't be back just because they're now showing Network.

I'm sure UTV will return but I'd be very surprised if they weren't keeping an small eye on how this cheeky change goes down.

Still seems to be UTV continuity tonight between Peston and the programme on football fans, including Gillian’s voiceovers. Maybe this will change tomorrow.
