I've seen one recording of the first GMTV where you can see a flash of the VT clock on the titles at the switchover point, I guess that varied between regions.
Interesting at that start of the clip just after the ITN Morning News with the run down of programmes for the next through the night run that the way it's presented in terms of font and displaying it letter by letter was similar to the previous jointly run Thames/LWT Night Time service.
The joint service ended at the end of 1992 when Thames went with out of vision continuity presenter Martin Weedon saying something along the lines of "Thats it, the end of ITV Night Time. Thank you for watching. Good Morning and Goodbye"

This would mean LWT just kept the older branding ( which never had live CA anyways ) until that junction? Then 3 nights started the weekend after?
One thing about that GMTV clip - I notice behind the sofa there is a pillar towards the corner. In the set that followed there was a pillar in the same place and each consecutive set either had a pillar or something which looked like it was covering a pillar in that location. Was that just coincidence? If there was something in the way, they surely could have just brought the set forward a bit?
I notice there's no "splat" on the 6am handover? Or might this have more to do with the fact they're essentially coming from the same building and if this recording had come from another region the recording would have had a "splat" at 6am?
I've seen recordings from the GMTV handovers with the non-sync cuts, I can definately remember we still had them here (from Emley Moor) well into the 90s. I imagine again it depended region by region.

I was always of the impression that GMTV didn't have a splat on the handover because the regional stations re-broadcast it as if it was a networked programme (hence UTV's ability to opt out without permission). However I think someone on here has corrected that in the past.

I think during the week, there wasn't a splat, because GMTV was effectively a network source into each ITV company, so in technical terms no different to any other time of day.
However, I think the ITV companies were by-passed weekends, so it was 'a lá' the TV-am method, and there was a splat ? There might even have been a splat in London, because LNN had a switching box (that I once fiddled about with) that switched at 06:00 and 09:25 to reconfigure the outgoing regional macro feeds, but I can't remember whether that switched the Crystal Palace feed or not.
Edit: Or it might have been GMTV stayed in circuit weekends too, but the splat as seen in some regions came from that switching box at LNN.
My understanding, based on someone I know who worked at an ITV company of the time is that it wasn't done just like a networked programme.
At 6am their transmission suite was bypassed and they all 'went home'. GMTV might well have still passed through the building and their regional news studio, but there was still some switching away from the norm. And of course if it happened in the ITV centres then it would look a lot cleaner than done at BT

Switched at station router level, rather than 'GPO' relays, so yes that makes sense
