The Beijing 2008 titles are just as terrifying 12 years later.

Does seem they're going through daily highlights rather than just key moments.

Couldn’t he commentate for IMG Sports Media/PLP your voice goes out to many millions then.

He was the commentator for the Everton V Southampton PL game last week for Amazon Prime, so now seemingly freelance, that's one avenue he can now exploit.

He still managed to crowbar in a mention of Southampton's 9-0 trashing by Leicester at every available opportunity, though... Mad

Although he hasn’t ‘stepped down’, it wasn't a voluntary decision. It's not like Motson deciding to gradually wind down, he's been demoted. IMO a very poor decision.

The Guardian have changed their stance on this, the story now headlined "Clive Tyldesley 'baffled and upset' after replacement as ITV lead commentator".

It’s probably some sort of agism. In terms of ITV either thought he was getting too old or his voice sounded too old.

For me his voice is so associated with so many big moments I don’t know why ITV would want to lose that.

Sam Matterface I’m sure is a good commentator but he’s a bit bland and all broadcasters seem to want now is commentators who sound the same rather than iconic voices or big occasions.

Obviously ITV wanted to bring their football commentary in line with the celebrity ice skating competitions.

If Sky have got any sense they'll give him a contract. Him alongside an ex-footballer would be perfect foil.

He did occasionally commentate on Cricket and Rugby League for Granada TV, so I wonder if he may be invited to perform such duties on the BBC, occasionally, either TV or radio?

And then bump Sky’s own commentators down to accommodate him?

Did he not work elsewhere anyway? As even being ITV’s number 1 doesn’t exactly provide a packed schedule

Exactly - even Piers Morgan works more than that. Outside of the tournaments think there are only 8-10 international fixtures a year.

He was in an advert last year I think, for a credit scoring website.

This season he did a number of group stage Champions League games on BT Sport, which was a welcome bit of nostalgia. As already mentioned, he's also been part of Amazon's Premier League coverage.

Odd that there's only 15 minutes introduction on tonight's CHE-NOR PL match on SSME/SSPL. It's not as if there was anything blocking more, SSN has been run as filler on both channels, SSME and SSPL for the 1930-2000 timeslot.
