As with the Under 20 World Cup earlier this year the BBC have picked up the rights at the last minute for the Under 17 World Cup Final between England and Spain. Coverage will begin at 3.20pm tomorrow on BBC Two and the BBC Sport website.

The only question I have on this is how this is able to be broadcast live as the blackout restrictions are in place as the Premier League is on tomorrow unless the BBC have got special permission or the blackout doesn't count for International football.

It doesn’t count for international football - but only for the country’s senior representative team

It also doesn’t count if the game is listed or for other matches of “national importance”.

Furthermore if any football match falls within the exemption, any football match can be broadcast opposite it.

See article 4 of the UEFA blocked broadcasting hours regulations.

It's also on Eurosport.

So in theory a Premier League 3pm game could be broadcast tomorrow - well from the moment the U17 match begins anyway.

The World Cup matches aren't UEFA controlled so can be shown. Last Season a late running A League match from Australia finished at around 1505 inside the 'blackout' on BT Sport. That's also permitted.

Also S4C routinely show (or have shown) Welsh Premier League and Cup matches between 2:30pm and 4:30pm.

There is no blackout in Wales, so there’s no problem with them doing that.

S4C is a nationwide channel nowadays though.

Except the PL haven't sold any UK rights for any of the 3pm matches, so no... But Milan v Juve is on air on BT Sport 3 at 1715, having kicked off at 1700. I wonder whether that could be shown live in its entirety? (It won't, but just curious whether that would be within the rules)

Indeed. A few years ago (I’m sure Steve Williams will have the exact details) - when Saturday lunchtime Premier League games kicked off at 12:45pm - there was a match in which a player sustained a bad injury. There was so much injury time the game ended up finishing after 2:45pm, but coverage was allowed to continue. I think there may also have been an FA Cup game kicking off at 12:30pm on a Saturday (probably a relay) that went to extra time (possibly even penalties) that also overran into the blackout window, so it’s not unprecedented.
