I actually totally forgot until reading something yesterday that Chris Evans had provisionally agreed to do it, can’t remember if he was still with BBC R2 at the time but either way looks like that isn’t happening this year!

'provisionally agreed to do it' is not how I'd describe it.

The reality was that Chris Evans announced he was doing Strictly (and only Chris Evans announced it), at the same time a lot of extra publicity around him starting a new Breakfast show on Virgin would have been incredibly useful to Chris Evans... I'd join the dots there...

There must have been some grain of truth to it? Surely if it was a total fabrication the BBC would have put something out rubbishing the story?

I don't want to sprinkle any negativity in here, but let's just say I suspect it was an attempt at a self fulfilling phophacy?

I think it was probably a bit of fun that got taken a bit too seriously somewhere along the line. It may well be the case Evans said, on a whim, yeah, I'll do Strictly next year, but then didn't think anything else about it. And then when the time came to cast the series, he decided he was too busy and said no.

It reminds me of something Alexei Sayle once said, if something's far enough in the future you probably agree to it without thinking, assuming you can get out of it later. He said if someone said to you "Can I come round and punch you in the face in three years' time?", you'd probably go, "Yeah, alright then".

It’s also possible that Chris didn’t think his breakfast show figures were going to be as good as they are and therefor planned to do it for the publicity.

Doing that would have given Chris and his new show more publicity (no doubt his original aim)...

Strictly so pissed off with the GMB "leak" last week they used it today to reveal James Cracknell.

Collectively now the cast looking much better.

I've never been the most avid viewer of Strictly, so forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't it a bit peculiar that all of the Strictly "exclusive" reveals of celebrities are on ITV Daytime shows?

It's debatable that the target demo for Strictly goss would be those who watch This Morning and Loose Women in that time slot, where as the older audience who mainly watch the Sat/Sun shows would be tuned into BBC1's strands?

Except the ones that were revealed on The One Show, Breakfast, Radio 1 and Radio 2?
Lou Scannon, Joe and Brekkie gave kudos

One person that I read about from RTÉ last weekend is CBBC presenter Karim Zeroual.

At least now they’ve announced every one, I’ll stop clicking on the news story

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-49186435

And then realising besides the first few lines, it’s the exact same story over and over again that keeps being republished.

Is it a good line up? well my mum watches it, is in her 60s, and is target audience and will have heard of about 5 or 6 at a push.

I suppose one good thing this year is there’s no one with a perceived unfair advantage of a dance background, like some in recent years.
