Ropey editing in the pre-recorded Results show (November 2018)

Whichever two couples are in the dance-off need to have the same outfits, hairstyles, make-up (etc) as in the main show.

Clearly the participants aren't going to go to sleep on Saturday night in all that stuff, and also continue wearing it constantly right up until Sunday evening for a live results show. Re-doing it all from scratch on Sunday for all couples, when it'll ultimately be unnecessary for all but two of them, would be a ridiculous waste of time/effort/expense.

The only practical way for the results show to be live is if it's broadcast later on the Saturday night, separated from the main show by at least 60 minutes of other programme(s). But having one TV programme straddle/dominate a single evening's schedule quite *that* much is way too "overkill". Fatiguing even for die-hard SCD fans, and justifiably infuriating for those Licence Fee payers for whom SCD is of no interest.

For at least the earliest few weeks of an SCD series (when there's still loads of couples to get through per episode), the main show alone is already bloody long. The duration (and/or the "density" within) gradually eases off each week, as the series progresses. Adding a same-night-broadcast Results Show on top, especially in the earlier weeks, would be unbearable for all but the absolute ultra-fans. Spreading SCD's baggy total weekend minutage across the two days makes for a more balanced schedule.

In summary... It makes logistical sense to "do" the Results Show later on the same night, but makes scheduling sense to broadcast it 24 hours later.

With all the money the BBC has, surely they could be arsed to make the results show live, which X Factor does. A £5 billion a year budget, and they can't afford the results show to air properly live.

The illusion is broke, as 99% know it is pre-recorded the night before, and many people can access the results from 11.00pm on the Strictly Spolier blog website.

I remember in 2008, after the first year of doing a pre-recorded results show they moved the results show back into Saturday night as one continued live show lasting nearly three hours. Now that is overkill, but the Saturday night result show should return in 2019.

It’s not broke so why fix it?

The result never seems to leak out in the press and unless you really go digging on social media or wherever you won’t find out the result ahead of broadcast.

They don’t need to maintain an illusion because it doesn’t seem to matter much.

Hi

The result is not that hard to find on line not long after the show has been recorded, and the reason they cannot do it live on Sunday is because Bruno is a Judge on Dancing With The Stars in the US so he has to fly out on Sunday as I think the show in the USA is broadcast live on a Monday Evening/

The result is dragged out, recap, guest act, chat with the contestants, chat with the judges etc.

It could easily run at 30 minutes and XF could easily run at 45 minutes (if they got rid of one of the guest performers).

Why stop there? You could do it in five minutes. You could just get Tess popping up before the news and announce it there.

Of course it's pointless being that long, but all light entertainment is inherently pointless. It's not a chore to be got over with as soon as possible. I probably enjoy the Sunday show more than the Saturday show, what with the group dances and the guests and the interesting chat. It's a piece of entertainment in its own right.

Strictly should return to the all Saturday night formats of 6.15-8.15 Live Show. A break for Casualty, the news etc and then back at 10.00pm for the Live half hour results show, followed by Match of the Day.

This would let Bruno fly out on Sunday morning, to be in Los Angeles for Dancing with the Stars.

No it shouldn’t. Just because this is your opinion it doesn’t mean it’s right.

I don’t want to have to give up my entire Saturday evening to watch two shows. It works perfectly as it is.

As I said up thread, SCD has not been the only programme of this genre to record the results programme after the main live show. It makes total logistical sense to do what is done, otherwise all the production staff, performers, and audience need to reassemble 24 hours later, and the set needs to remain in place for an extra 24 hours too. That's a huge and unnecessary cost.

It would still be the case, even if Bruno didn't have to fly to LA.

And logistically too with group routines and guest performances being pre-recorded (and not just for the sake of it) it is far easier to edit it into a pre-recorded results show than into a live show on the Saturday night.

Most importantly it has no impact on the ratings, and I'm sure now with The X Factor being where it is at if they could do the same they probably would.

And also annoy its enormous child audience, none of whom will be able to see it.

.... and also would remove the main hook of the Sunday Evening Schedule too.

A 10pm results show wouldn't do that well in the ratings (especially after the news.) and would affect the Sunday schedule much more. I don't think back in the era when they did do it that it ever aired that late.
