It's generally very impressive, with the odd cringe moment thrown in for good measure. Same with the AR which seems to have been scaled back a bit in recent weeks (only natural with a new toy I guess), but worked very well for the snow globe effect.

I wonder if with no Christmas show this year there may be more of a hint towards Christmas in the Showcase performances in the final than there usually is.

I didn't catch much at the weekend but did see the AR snow globe which was lovely and looked great in the closeup shots.

Here's a interesting read of the AR tech https://www.tvbeurope.com/production-post/the-augmented-reality-elephant-in-the-ballroom including the added complication of the delay it introduces!

Back to the screen/AR/projection effects.
I always assumed the floor images were projected from above, but watching last night, I'm not sure, but the whole floor isn't a screen is it?

That said

Yes, the images are projected from above. Multiple projectors overlapping so that shadows cast are reduced.

Yes. I noticed a glimpse of the floor projection on one of the dancer's skirts on the Sunday show. It's very well done I must say

It'll be interesting to see the final vote percentages if the BBC publish them. I was pleasantly surprised to see Bill announced as the winner. Is this the first time a professional has had back-to-back wins?

Yes, Oti is the first professional to win two series back-to-back.

I think Bill won because he was entertaining and (surprisingly!) not too bad at the dancing, it probably doesn't hurt having Queen (the band, not her majesty!) backing you either Very Happy

The 'sandwich' also had some absolutely crazy ratings last night, probably boosted by the Boris effect!

Strictly Come Dancing: 11.6m (peak 13.2m)

They don't release the final vote percentages, and I think rightly so - you don't achieve anything from saying how well, or indeed how badly, the couples have performed. It's a nice programme where the taking part is more important than winning.

They don't even release 2nd to 4th place. Is wrong IMO and the justification that it'll basically upset the lovers is pathetic. SPOTY released full voting figures for years and IMO it should be standard for all voting competitions to be transparent. ITV usually release percentages for all votes though notably only released info for the final of I'm a Celebrity this year.

And earlier than last year to boot.

I suspect it would have been higher if it wasn't for the panic travel and shopping on Saturday night. Must say though it was a great time to do your Christmas supermarket shop.
