Certainly not newsworthy, but IMO a bigger scandal than the whole Sachsgate thing.

The format of the show is simple - the judges have their say, then the public have theirs. A contestant shouldn't be bullied out by the judges when the public are (at the moment ) voting to keep them in.

In the end these things always correct themselves anyway - yes, John Sergeant may have survived a few more weeks than he should have, but in the past we've always seen that in the end talent is generally rewarded, and the act they just can't get rid off is gone by the final.

Except for the Chris Parker debacle in series 1.

.

Was he bullied off though Confused On the occasions I've watched the show, he always seemed to be amused by his slatings. He never took the show that seriously, one of the reasons that endeared him to the public, I think.

Judging by his appearance on the One Show, he resigned of his own accord and was happy to do so.

Hopefully this will be the nail in the coffin of this dreadfully dull show, or possibly have it shunted off to BBC2, 4 or Sundays.

That, sir, is worse than anything the BNP have ever said. Ever.

Well, maybe not. But still contemptible!

Dull ? Actually, I think it's an extremely well produced Saturday night, family entertainment show. I watch it every week, and enjoy it, reminds me in some ways of the 'golden age' of TV in the 1970s when we had New Faces and The Generation Game, in fact the judging format is lifted straight from New Faces. Mr Nasty, Mr Nice, and two 'reasonables'.

Personally can't stand this show and find it very "exclusive", unlike other talent shows which are more "inclusive" and easier to drop in and out of.

It's also by far the bitchiest show on TV - Louis Walsh slagging off Danni Minogue is nothing compared to what is quoted from the Strictly judges in the press.

Hear, hear. I'd like to add that anything on Saturday nights is better than the X Cacktor .

IMHO, Sergeant was entitled to leave, and he did the right thing: there was a very real danger he could end up winning. It's nothing major. The money was going to charity anyway, and in the end the show is celebrities dancing and, if they do particularly well, they get a little trophy. Nothing more. It's even more of a hillock culled from a molehill than the Sachsgate fiasco.

Firstly the money no longer goes to charity, and secondly why should someone leave in case they win - that's an absolute insult to the others, and as I said before history shows when it comes to the crunch he wouldn't have a chance anyway and would certainly be voted out before the final. And if he wins, so what - it's hardly the end of the world.

All that his departure means is that John Sergeant will not get voted out now - but the other "better" dancers will continue to go anyway as the process continues - and as ultimately John Sergeant would have gone, it'll mean some of these "better" dancers will be leaving a week earlier.

I think John Sergeant knew exactly was he was doing, in quitting yesterday. In other words he quit while he was ahead, while the public still supported him.

Besides, his quitting has brought in massive amounts of publicity, the 'better dancers' won't feel aggrieved and the judges won't be annoyed anymore.

Smiles all around in my view: John Sergeant seemed completely happy yesterday, no doubt he'll be getting some good work off the back of the whole saga-- I think ultimately he's the real 'winner' of the show!
