Anyone watching this ? Is sleep deprivation taking the reality concept too far, although I do recall Channel 5 doing something similar with that "Touch the Truck" show with Dale Winton.

Does this make for good telly, and how soon until we get paint drying on TV ?

Soon as they all nod off I expect. What on earth are the Health & Safety implications of this? Not to get too anally retetentive about it, but Dermot said they, "didn't know if it could be done" . Thats a bit dodgy surely? How soon 'til we see paranoid demented people attacking each other or breaking down?

If there has been no satisfactory risk assesment done for this then how can it go to air?

It's really just like big brother, except with them trying to stay awake. So effectively they can stream a programme like this through the night without them going to bed.

As a programme it is well produced so far. Dermot is a great presenter, graphics, titles and music are good, and the little documentaries about sleep and sleep deprevation are well made, and imformative.

I'd like to know how they're going to fill the airtime if they all fall asleep before the end of the week.

Yeah what happens if all but one falls asleep in 4 days time. The last person awake is affectively the winner.

Many of you may consider this another reality TV show, but essential it's a scientific / pyschological experiment, but the £100k prize distracts from that.

Looks quite good so far, and I'll be watching all week in the hope of some true signs of insanity.

Already links to 2 other C4 reality show - trials filmed in the Big Brother house and was that Rufus from Bedsitcom giving a lecture on triangles?

One thing I will say is the £100k prize kind of undermines the importance of Big Brother to C4. Big Brother is probably C4's biggest asset but offers a lower prize, while Boys and Girls offered £100k a week, and other shows such as Without Prejudice had a £50k prize (reduced to £20k for series 2).

Also good too see the show has no public voting, so they can be themselves to a greater extent. The elimination process seems quite fair, and Dermot does a great job as usual.

Well I must say I was as cynical as you lot about this earlier - 2 hours of people staying awake per night on Channel 4 in addition to fabulous round the clock coverage on E4. But it was actually quite a good watch. So there. Dermot made it good viewing, and the feature bits within the programme were quite interesting.

And? Wasn't the psychology angle exactly that used to 'sell' the first series of BB before it became 'make a minor celebrity TV'.

I'm not entirely sure if this is true, seeing as you could argue that contestants have to do more to earn the money for Shattered. Plus I'm guessing that Shattered contestants will have less future media earning potential.
And what's to say the prize money for BB5 may not be increased to £100,000 anyway?

Well, I was quite looking forward to this when I read about it last week...mainly because:-

1. It is a unique concept - it hasn't been tried before (apart from round the clock coverage sort of stuff like BB).
2. It just sounds...well...kind of interesting...esp with the paranoia, hallucinations and behaving like toddlers Dermot promises.
3. The programme might not work - as he said, noone knows if this kind of thing can be done. Now...what programme before has said that then??? Nothing as far as I am aware!

This is why it sounds all REALLY good. I know it may be pushing the reality concept a little far...but who cares??? At least it is a new kind of concept that noone has experimented with before! And damn good viewing it is too!!!

Popstars - WAS a new concept! That is why it was so popular! Very Happy
Pop Idol...Popstars 2 The Rivals...Pop Idol 2 - are NOT new concepts Rolling Eyes - which is why, they generally do not do as well second time around.

So, anyway...back to the point...Shattered seemed to be VERY good tonight - (good idea, good programme, good presenter) and I will be tuning into Channel 4 for the rest of the week to see what happens!

Well done Channel 4! Very Happy

I reckon this could end up being bigger than Big Brother...it's certainly different!

Dermot going in is quite interesting. He seems down to earth and is talking a bit about how he feels the show went.

Also, noting the Awake clock in the Lab, it appears that the streaming is live to the minute.
