I have always thought Eamonn would be good, but if Rachel's contract is also up I wouldn't be surprised if they looked to replace both and maybe switch the roles around.
We'll see how Colin does - as much as the show needs a host the over 70s are happy with it also needs to appeal to a younger audience too.
Nick has had a good run - he wasn't that great to start with and in all honesty probably hasn't got much better, but is a familar face for the audience. I wouldn't be against them getting Jeff back - he did try to unresign but his unresignation wasn't accepted.

I’m wondering the same re: switching the roles. I know she’s been mentioned in jest but I do actually think Steph McGovern would be a good call for this and you’d likely need a male member of the team somewhere. A fully female presenting team would of course be completely acceptable - but I always think with that kind of decision that you need to think how it would be perceived if it was to swing the other way, and we know if the team became all male there’d be outrage!

They should also introduce a poetry slot with Chris Whitty

I've said it before, I'll say it again. Start Professor Jonathan Van-Tam off in Dictionary Corner, and get him groomed for the main job.

How's Ruth at maths...? Can she write clearly with a black marker...? 🤔😀 🙃

Countdown will never be axed as it has a pride of place in the history of Channel 4 as being the first programme to air on the channel on November 2nd 1982, with that special opening line from the late Richard Whiteley:
"As the countdown to a brand new channel ends, a brand new countdown begins"
So it had a place in history, which will be very hard for Channel 4 to end.

Colin is also the main presenter for Eurosport's snooker coverage of the Triple Crown events (UK just last week, Masters in mid-January and Worlds in mid-April), and since those are fluid start/end times for consecutive weeks, those would be disruptive to any recording as he won't be available while those tournaments are playing.
Presumably Colin does a lot of his other shows from MediaCity anyway so logistically that could work out well

In normal times a couple of weeks of planned absence a few times a year should have little impact. The filming schedule can be planned around such things pretty easily on a show that typically records a weeks worth of episodes per filming day.

Possibly not people's first choice, but I could see Jeremy Paxman being a good fit for it. I'm sure he could do this as well as University Challenge if he wanted (though I accept that he may not want to do so)!
