All we know is that it isn't the same as last years, but that means it could be anything at this point!

The deserted pier ident could probably be revived and still be contextual.

I wouldn't be against 2017 being reused - the surrounding presentation was beautiful, while the idents were charming enough and certainly 2020-safe*

*Quick face coverings edit on the supermarket one.

I can’t see any reason why you’d think idents from a previous year would be reused.

They didn’t reuse old idents when they dropped the regular oneness ones earlier in the year

I don't think it's that farfetched to suggest recycling an old Christmas package from the current Oneness era, in the circumstances? But I agree it's more probable they'll go for the Zoom style or something totally different.

My suggestion of reusing 2017 is more out of fear of what tedious drivel they might cook up if they continue the Zoom style, when they have something beautiful and ready made in the archive.

We shall see.

Are the current circumstances going to be a big barrier here? There are plenty of digital animators able to work from home, I would suggest, there's no real excuse not to do something new.

BBC One is really the only channel now which always provides a new Christmas ident package each year. ITV had recycled the same old 2013 festive idents for the following five years, with the odd addition. Channel 4 reuse their previous idents too.

BBC One can easily produce a brand new batch for what will be a very hard Christmas for the country. They do not have to go overboard, and they should take a leaf out of their past presentation, especially the more simplified ones of the 1980s and 1990s.

I bet that this year's Christmas pres will be along the same lines as this current crop of bad idents. People putting their decorations up, Christmas trees, lights and Christmas jumpers.

I'm happy to say that you've lost your bet. From what I've seen, this Christmas on BBC One is going to be popular.

Sounds intriguing!

One thing I've wondered is when the launch date will be this year. The English lockdown isn't due to be scaled down until December 3rd (although a further extension is possible), so perhaps the Christmas ident may be held back until Saturday the 5th?? Pure speculation on my part, I hasten to add.

Maybe they could launch at 4:30pm on Tuesday 1st December
