Those idents were far better than I remember.

Is that a mock or did it really go out? I'm not an EastEnders fan in the slightest but that was rather wonderfully done.

Apologies for the confusion I quickly mocked it up following Josh's comment earlier in the thread. Thank you for the feedback too!

Christmas idents for BBC One will launch after Strictly on Sunday evening (29th).

I may as well quote what he says in his 2017 Christmas Wrapping:

"It used to be an immutable tradition that the Christmas idents started on Christmas Eve, and quite often late on Christmas Eve. These things are supposed to be about anticipation. You wait till Christmas Eve to see what they look like; that means the festival is about to start. Of course, the main problem with that is there's no such thing as trailer stings any more, for the most part. Nothing to base and build up the anticipation around. There is an obvious solution to that, of course, bring back trailer stings, but... it ain't gonna happen."

At one time you’d have the Christmas promos advertising the programmes starting, and then the actual idents would start later. Now it’s all the same thing. The minute you start trailing the festive programmes, they show the idents as well, of course because generally the idents are just a cut of the promo

There is an argument of going early this year (although there isn’t much evidence of it round by me, it may just be a thing people say on social media), it’ll be interesting if they go back to December next year

Things have moved on though. Especially this year. Bring Christmas on...

The best compromise for us friends of presentation was in 2016 when we had the special true meaning of Oneness idents on Christmas Day.

I hope the Christmas idents aren't lockdown-themed...

Don't worry, they're not, and they're lovely.

Are we talking globe-style lovely?

Ehhhh..... no.

Too early but what the heck. Arguably the 1st Sunday of Advent is more respectful than the 1st December, although like Andrew refers to I preferred it when we were teased first with element of the package in trailers and stings before the big launch closer to the day.

Must admit though even for a miserable scrooge Iike myself walking around the village the other day and seeing a couple of decorated houses made me smile - and frankly this year you take the smiles where you can.

There's a lot of early Christmas decorations appearing round here too, as you say we all need cheering up this year.

Wow, maybe I'm just wired differently, but I think the special feeling of Christmas needs to be preserved even more this year than usual. I'd be sick of Christmas by the day itself if I was putting up the decorations and listening to the songs in mid-November. But even the thought of Christmas coming soon cheers me up, so I don't particularly need to rush the decorations out.

As for the ident, I've gotten used to it starting on the 1st December which is still too early (I'd prefer a week later at least) so starting two days before isn't much of a big difference.
