Asa flagged this earlier in the week as Radio 2 dedicated the afternoon to TV Themes. It is now available to listen too again on BBC Sounds, with the tracklist suggesting they got through over 50 themes. David Lowe guested, talking about the BBC News theme and The One Show. Seems it is worth a listen if you get the chance.

I'm hoping there was a generous sprinkling of Mike Post and Simon May in there.

I do like how David Lowe has embraced interviews now; also nice to know he kept copies of his earlier work - so many composers just throw it out after a period of time.

A really interesting listen! No doubt the programme will disappear off BBC Sounds at some point or if you don't fancy listening to the entire thing and want to hear David Lowe talk about BBC News etc, I've clipped the segment here as an mp3.

It was quite a good show. There were no surprises as I've got most of the themes he played, as no doubt many of us on here have.
Something which may be worth noting is that Andy Marriott has been doing this type of show on Serenade Radio (http://www.serenade-radio.com/index.php) for a number of years on Bank Holiday Mondays and will be doing so once again on New Year's Eve from 1 til 3... https://www.facebook.com/SerenadeRadio/ Sadly, there is no catch-up facility available but might be useful getting recorders at the ready

I enjoyed the programme and it was interesting to hear a full three hour show dedicated to theme tunes. The David Lowe chat was brilliant, especially the part about the composition of the One Show theme tune.

Was the Red Dwarf theme used in the broadcast an official one as it didn’t quite sound right to me.

I was typing this out in another post that got deleted.

The RD theme is a 'best of TV' type generic MIDI mockup thtat makes it onto releases in the absence of official recordings, other examples include the 1988 version of 'Overkill' by Charlie Morgan and Andy Pask, which is often an awful synthy mess bearing only moderate resemblence to the original.

The Red Dwarf theme tune was released commercially, as the B-side to the single 'Tongue Tied'

The one I believe Mike W is referring to is this one

which I first encountered on a sci-fi compilation album called "The No1 Sci Fi Album In The World Ever" which sorta belies its credentials.

Can't find Red Dwarf in the BBC Sounds tracklisting - where was it in the programme?
Mike W and Steve in Pudsey gave kudos
