TV presenter Magenta Devine, known for her appearances on Channel 4's Network 7 and BBC Two's Rough Guides to the World, has died after a short illness.

Very sad news. Someone that was so closely associated with "yoof tv" during the late 80s and early 90s. Network 7 in particular transformed the TV landscape.

I also remember her on Young, Gifted and Broke in the early 00s on ITV.

Can't say I was a fan of "yoof tv" growing up but to lose someone at the age of 61 is a tragedy. RIP.

Really sorry to hear this. I used to love watching Rough Guide and Reportage on DEF II.

You can see Janet Street-Porter, Magenta Devine and Sankha Guha speaking about Rough Guide from 14 minutes in this documentary:

It's a shame we see so little footage these days from Network 7 as it was so groundbreaking - I guess rights clearance must be an issue.

Sorry to see this news.

Network 7, particularly the first series, was probably the program that got me into design, idents, presentation, and so on. It was absolutely nothing like anything else at the time and, to my mind, the look of the program 30 years on is still futuristic just like Love Missile F1-11 (Sigue Sigue Sputnik) still sounds like it's from 50 years in the future to me. (don't laugh!) Magenta was, of course, a prime mover and shaker with Sigue Sigue Sputnik.

Farewll Magenta and your caravan. Loved your work.

A couple of years ago, some kind soul uploaded every episode of Eldorado to YouTube.

It would be great if there was another kind soul who had all 44 episodes of Network 7 who could then upload them for posterity's sake. Like you, Omnipresent, I would absolutely love to see more than the meer fragments of the show which are available on the tinterweb.

Yes, an unusual choice and it did sound a bit odd. The list of towns before the news sounds more like a bored train announcement. The station had a cracking theme tune and she doesn't match the excitement of it

They start at about 1 minute in (clip starts with the outgoing jingles)
Markymark and Spencer gave kudos

Still better than Amanda Abbington on the current Vodafone for Business radio ads. (VF have always been very good at business prevention though)
