The strangest thing too about the whole thing is that it would just about make sense to do it during the group stage, as I can see you'd rather have it on in a regular, albeit unusual, slot rather than take if off or move it around every other day, but they also did it during the knockout rounds where there was the potential for extra time, and also kept it there for the entire duration of the tournament even when the matches were all evening kick-offs. So there were evenings when Emmerdale ended up going out at around 10.45 because of extra time, and there'd just been ancient repeats in the early evening. No sense at all.

Did Emmerdale get a 7pm outing on ITV2 during that period?

Was ridiculous scheduling - better off giving it a months break than doing that, or reduce the episode count (think it was already 6 times a week by then).

That's relatively normal for Wiki, somebody falls in love with a programme and decides to adopt the Wiki page for it and pretend its an unofficial website for said programme, going into minute detail on how you can hear an actor farting at 2:51 in episode 3 and what type of fart it was. It's then spontaneously decided that said show's going to have a second/third/fourth/2000th series with the only source for such a claim being the inside of their head. After a period of reverting/editing/arguing/grand delusion, the adoptee eventually falls out of love with the programme/article/Wiki in general (or gets banned/grows up, whichever comes first) and the article is adopted by normal people/editors and chopped by anywhere up to 66% in terms of length alone.

This gets quite interesting when multiple people are fans of a programme (usually a current one) and they're all responsible for the edit war they've just created...

The time I had to step in was about a decade ago when a programme article had a brief few paragraphs on the actual show, followed by a colossal in-depth essay of every ITV region that aired it and detailed times for each series, dwarfing the information about the show itself. The creator was very annoyed (I think they called me a “sad person” or something) but it really belonged in someone’s own website and not the main article in an online encyclopaedia.

Saying that I’m quite proud of the expansion I did on the article for Knightmare ( https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knightmare ) back in May 2005 which turned it from a short “stub” into something more detailed. I used the help of a few people I knew (including the creator of the show) and it’s been rewritten and expanded by others since but still contains plenty of what I wrote aged 16. As it was back when Wikipedia was a comparatively small site it’s nice to see it so high on Google results for the show today.

And I think Jez has honoured his pledge to never stop watching Coronation Street.

The December World Cup next year could see some odd scheduling with it clashing with prime advertising territory.

I don't think they did show it on ITV2, which you'd think would have been a worthwhile endeavour, at a time when they were eager to get everyone moving over to digital. The whole channel was just all over the place. There was also an occasion in that World Cup where Corrie was down in its usual slot in a night was there was no football, but it didn't go out, as they'd seemingly miscounted how many episodes there'd been and they'd accidentally got too far ahead.



The one I always mention, but it's now been changed, is the Wiki page for Catastrophe, the sitcom, which had an exhaustive list of the entire cast and crew, accurate TX dates, audience figures for every episode, a long list of all the awards it had been nominated for, all that, but not a single word about what the programme was actually about. I see someone has now added a synopsis for the series and each episode, happily. Now it's long finished.

There used to be on the One Show page a huge passage on "dog trainer controversy", which was an extensive discussion of a feature they did about ten years ago about dog training by someone who had some controversial views on the subject, which generated a load of complaints and they didn't appear again. Interesting enough, perhaps, but for a time it was longer than everything else on the page put together.

Yeah, nowadays that sort of thing would go on a Fandom wiki dedicated to the show.

Completely random question that sprung to mind after reading that thread, but what was the deal with GMTV during the 2002 World Cup? Usually GMTV ended up broadcasting for about an hour or so, before handing over to ITV Sport for the football. However, there was one occasion during that tournament when England got to the Quarter Finals and were due to play Brazil. The BBC had the first rights to show this, however ITV made a late call and also decided to show the match due to its importance. On the day of the match, GMTV didn’t even broadcast at all, and ITV Sport started its coverage at 6:00am. I’m guessing the BBC’s coverage also began at this time.
