The news from ITN is the same length in all regions, regardless of what the mags might say.
There's then a 'hole' from network, into which the regions bung a local news alone, or a local news plus something; adding up to the same number of minutes in all regions.
Does that make better sense, or shall I just nod off now?

Just glad we dont have to put up with
SIX breaks in the WEAKEST LINK and
EIGHT breaks in LETTERMAN!as they do in america.
All the Star Trek series of programmes have their first break about 5 or 6 mins in on Sky. Grrr

No there isn't!
You can count them during the programme. Four.

Do they have late ending to the programme before News At Ten to make people not turn over to watch BBC Ten as it will have allready started so people just stay on ITV and watch news at 10?[/quote:0437147964]
This does seem very likely, except IIRC News at Ten has had a habit of starting not bang on the dot of the hour since long before the BBC moved it's news from 9 to 10.

I'm also suprised that no one has mentioned the difficulties of using Video+ in this thread. Those 'extra' ITV minutes must cause a lot of unhappiness to those who rely on Video+.!
I'm very interested to learn (although not surprised) that ITV have a different internal schedule to the one passed onto the Listing Magazines
The problems with listing magazines is that the information needs to be submitted a few weeks in advance of publication. With every will in the world channel planners put together schedules as best they can with the information they have. Of course it's neater to have programmes start on whole segments - i.e. on the hour, or half past etc. But these people only really decide what programmes go where and when. It's then down to other departments to pad out the schedules with breaks, promo's, branding, opts etc.
Often, until the final plans are put together near the TX date, it is difficult to really know how things will run. Last minute changes, unknown programme lengths, competition, changing marketing priorities, let alone commercial issues etc etc. Of course ITV have a huge problem in trying to keep all the regions happy too.
I guess there aren't many excuses for running over five mins later than planned, but a few mins here and there is pretty good going.

Sorry m8!there r eight breaks in letterman but they r well hidden onITV2! they r edited out and some segments are just telling you to 'stay with us!' however, there r 3 breaks packed into around 10 mins right at the end!(i think!)

I'm sorry 'M8', there are only four.
Having seen it in New York, I can tell you eight is a lot of crap.
