In most places now there is a Hits Radio and local station on the same multiplex putting out the same playlist and simulcasting mostly the same shows outside of those commitments. I can see all these getting merged eventually.

Free Radio's breakfast show (the one on 96.4, 97.2 and 103.1) is already called Hits at Breakfast.

And it’s ghastly too - it’s sub-Moyles stuff with a team of 3. I’m in Worcester - is that breakfast show the same on all the Free Radio stations??

No, Birmingham, the Black Country and Shropshire have Dan Morrissey. Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Coventry and Wawrickshire have a different breakfast show.

The Bauer cuts continue...

Surprising they've bothered keeping the local show, even if it's going to be broadcast from nowhere near the local area. I can imagine a TFM style situation in the not too distant future, where they keep the Viking name but quietly merge it with Hallam's programme. Then again, it can't be too long before The Hits become fully networked anyway.

It's no different to ITV broadcasting to the Westcountry region from Bristol, or the Border region from Gateshead, or the various sub regions from other areas, although in ITV's case, they have actually kept newsrooms in those areas, which sounds like it may not be the case with Bauer.

Heck - Anglia News have never had a proper studio in the west of the Anglia TV patch. The Anglia News West studio was in Norwich in the beginning (in the early 90s) and has remained there ever since.

These days, they just use the same studio and pre-record one opt at 5pm as live.

Yes - though I don't think anything on ITV is technically an opt is it? (i.e. they aren't opting out of a network feed, but are sending their studio down as a contribution source to a centralised playout area, which also handles regionalised ad playout)

Considering the community radio offering in Sheffield is from the same people who provide the local TV offering I’m not sure that’s true in this case.

The station I have links with is going down a different route.
