One interesting thing we're beginning to see happen now is how it is impacting on casting as drama production resumes and actors being unable, or unwilling, to travel across borders to take part. US series 9-1-1 Lone Star has lost one of their British stars, with the character written out for now, whilst others are recasting such as a character in The Witcher, and also previously announced in Neighbours as well.

It's no different to sticking the film look on everything, and Casualty was the sort of show which worked better without that as well.

I'd say film look is a different case, more of a qualitative change than a quantitative one. It was a bit jarring when they changed - and as I recall they didn't really change anything else about the way it was shot at that time - these days it's also shot in a more filmy way so if they just changed back to video rates it'd probably be just as weird.

The film look was a bit jarring for shows like Casualty, Neighbours etc a decade or more ago but now it works really well.

27 years ago for Casualty I think. They did a few eps of one series with a film effect but people complained

Can you apply the filmic look to anything by just switching off the motion smoothing feature on your TV?

I've never seen a motion smoothing feature that will reduce the apparent framerate from whatever the broadcast is, they only seem to increase it. It's pretty easy to do in software though.

Bargain Hunt was showing a new socially distance episode today. All the pretty much the same, wouldn't have noticed if it hadn't had been for the few masks in the sale room.

It’s been like that for the past week or two.

Main difference is that the experts always maintain some distance from the contestants, they watch the auction away from the auction hall itself, they’re not handed the cash at the end if in profit, and the kick at the end is fine without joining arms.

Only Connect had a simple solution to film with social distancing which has been on other shows, perplex glass between the contestants.

Do they still record Only Connect at Enfys Studios in Cardiff?

Yes, they are still there. They moved there in 2014 for the start of their BBC Two run. When they were on BBC Four they first used ITV Wales Studios at Culverhouse Cross, and then left there when ITV closed the building down, and they went to Roath Lock Studios for one series in 2013.

Bargain Hunt had its first auction inside an auction house and the biggest change was the contestants, presenter and expert watched the procedure on a live feed in another room/area. Worked okay all things considered.

I've always thought there was a bit of artistic licence with the auctions anyway and they weren't always present in the room when the items were being auctioned.
