These days the trend seem to very much be for short films telling some story or other with a brief mention of the brand at the end of the ad.

I think it’s fair to say John Lewis probably kicked off this trend but what classic ads always signalled the start of the festive season for you?

For me it’s the obvious Coke and Toys R Us, what are yours?

Oddly enough, in Scotland we have the "IRN BRU" Snowman ad to signify the festive season, which shares similar connotations to the Coca-Cola Christmas Truck in that when it's on the air in Scotland, it's officially Christmas.

I guess 14 years on air makes it a bit of a tradition!

... and there’s now a sequel, that debuted two years ago. Not as good as the original (and many say the same about the product being advertised!)

I do wonder if there will be a third instalment of the story - perhaps showing the devastation caused when the unmanned plane crashes down onto Balmoral!

Do they still show both adverts?

Park and Farepak Christmas hampers, already advertising for the next year’s Christmas before that year’s had even started.
