New WM jingles aren't very good - certainly not some of Music4's best productions in my opinion.

Bring back the sung "Beeee Beeeeee Seeeeee Doubled-uuuuuu emmmmmmed" jingles, I say!

I don't. A JAM sung jingle package would be a dragging the station backwards in terms of production - not forwards.

IMHO the Music4 ones are a billion times better than the trash they were using for the past couple of years (the Steve England/JAM BBC local corporate 'plinks' package)
At least these have a stronger instrumentation score, a clearer melody, and a less irritating hook.

Doesn't help with opt out/opt in though, when WM is using their own package, with their own output, which is correct, but when the regional late show from BBC Nottingham still uses the old news jingle(for non WM BBC West Midlands cluster stations, don't know about BBC East Mids!) , & tries to cover up the BBC WM jingle, not very successfully IMO!

You would've thought the 'regional' jingle would've been updated at the same time.

Must admit I like the new WM TOTH though, mentioning FM & DAB. About time too!

This week's MT, apart from Mike Collie's outside trip on Tuesday down the river, the only notable thing I can say about this week's shows were that the Beeb were spotted in my neck of the woods on Wednesday, due to the sad death of the 14 year old boy in Bloxwich, due to the thunderstorms. (Last I read, there was some debate over the actual cause of death)

My brother & sister in law spotted the van while they were out & nipped down to tell us, by which time Ashley was already in full flow. (He didn't look 'happy' ISTR as well!)

Didn't catch Thursday's & Friday's shows, due to listening to Franksy & Merson on Thursday, & helping to look after my brother's cat while he's away for the weekend ! (Lovely thing, sweet temperment, but gets lonely easily. Hasn't been the same since it went AWOL for a couple of days last year!)

Can anyone help me out here....?!

I don't actually live in the Midlands Today area but what is the name of the old guy (not Michael Collie / Nick Owen) that's been doing the late evening bulletins lately?

Thanks to all participants in this thread. To improve the navigation for all visitors, especially those who do not regularly trawl the generic threads, they (including this thread) are being closed.

Recent news discussions can be continued in dedicated threads in the new In the News forum otherwise please comment on other topics in the main forum. Hopefully the footer information on that page will make it a little clearer about what content should appear where.

While some may be annoyed / wound up / incensed by the locking of established threads and at other members’ initial confusion once it has settled down, the splitting of main presentation and news should be a benefit to all.

After all, the more people who see your thread, the more likely they are to participate. Any comments would be welcome in the Announcement thread at the top of the main forum.
