If we're after another veteran to take over from Bruce how about...
Ronnie Corbett? (He filled in for Bruce once when he was sick)
Terry Wogan?
Des O' Connor?
Ken Bruce?

Des O'Connor is a pretty good match, but I can't really see that happening. As for Ronnie Corbett, he hasn't been too well lately so I don't think he'd be up to the schedule.

Wogan isn't too bad a shout actually. He presented the original Come Dancing for a while so has some link with dancing.

Might give them a problem for CIN weekend though.

(I like the idea of Terry Wogan actually, or how about Stephen Fry? )

One more name. Just for fun. It would be really fun. Dara O'Brien . You know it would be.

You're off your rocker.

This has got ridiculous now.

The fact is there is a very short list of people who could replace Brucie.

Graham Norton
Vernon Kay

Being the most likely.

Jon, I clearly wasn't being serious about Dara O'Brien or Stephen Fry - it would make for startlingly awkward television, but that's why it would be good. I doubt either man could buy into the seriousness of the competition, which would make it a damn sight more watchable for someone like me. Clearly not going to happen, and I wouldn't suggest it actually did, but anyone who thinks someone like John Barrowman or Graham Norton could maintain the current setup's fairly delicate balance of seriousness and fun is, I think, mad. Someone like Wogan would be fine, but Barrowman/Norton would make it too energetic, too camp and yet not serious enough.

By the way, what's the betting Forsyth makes a guest appearance in the audience during an early broadcast, and then is a surprise (in that it's leaked weeks in advance and press released days before) co-host of the final? Bringing him back next series in a very limited capacity might help ease the transition, and allow him a proper farewell (from the main series) at the end.

Out of interest can anyone think of any previous contestants who producers might like? They've gone that route before (Kaplinsky as co-host, Alesha Dixon as judge)?

I doubt it would happen. They might do a VT asking his opinion of the finalists near the end of the series, or something similar.

Agreed, you wouldn't go through a whole series with the audience having got used to the new regime for them to bring him back for the final.

Everyone's missing the fact that Brucie has already named his ideal successor - Boris Johnson.

He does have presenter experience, after all.

How about Len Goodman or Bruno from the judges panel to move up to be the main presenter, and then a new judge would have to come in, which would be perfect for Anton du Beke!

There are numerous problems with that idea.

Surely if they choose one of the judges, they'll have to find a new judge, which doesn't really solve the problem.
