Big Brother UK Renewed

Well Channel 5 have been doing loads of promotion for the summer series already. I actually seen an advert on Facebook and posts on Twitter of posters in university’s to audition for Big Brother. If this means there struggling to get people to audition or just trying to make this series stand out we’ll not know. Also there promising cutting back on outside contact, better tasks and well bringing back the social experiment it used to be. They’ve also delayed the series to avoid it clashing with Love Island (Which is very worrisome) I think however no matter how
much they try the damage is done and I doubt the ratings will ever recover

They make such promises every year and always break them.

I agree, I found the house far more interesting in this series when there were just 8 housemates at the start. It's more honest and more intense, they're too used to putting in 16 housemates and creating the same formulaic series each year. It would be better to return to the times when there were fewer housemates - if that means a shorter series or fewer evictions and maybe a few late arrivals - then I think I would enjoy it far more.

I'm probably in the minority, however, praying that it gets renewed! If it doesn't and it gets picked up by someone else we're going to end up with Emma leaving and it becoming the Rylan show (which isn't an awful prospect, but it isn't BB).

I totally agree I thought those episodes with just 8 housemates were fantastic and would love a cut to the number of housemates. There was some real discussions going on in there when it was just 8

Ideally Channel 5 would scrap normal BB which has failed to hit even 1m and keep Celebrity Big Brother but I suspect Ben Frow is willing to let it go.



I suspect Channel 5's most expensive shows are Neighbours, Home and Away and Big Brother. GPs Behind Closed Doors has 50 episodes a year but I imagine it's very cheap to make.

I suspect on a per hour basis they are a lot cheaper than something like an episode of The Hotel Inspector.

I bet an hour of GP’s behind closed doors costs more than an hour of Big Brother. It’s also far less lucrative in terms of things like Product Placement and sponsorship.

I think that Channel 5 should stop 30 min breaks in evictions as it’s proven that when they return at 10.30pm the ratings plummet. Plus it’s poorly scheduled it’s 9pm,10pm,10.30pm or moved to 5STAR. I remember last year it was on at 11.30pm - 12.30am. Maybe if they would stick to a time period and stopped 30 min beaks it may help out the show. Not that it will save the show but it’ll keep eviction shows at a good figure

But Channel 5 will repeat each episode of The Hotel Inspector many times. An episode of Big Brother is effectively dead 24 hours after original broadcast.

And the rights to The Hotel Inspector (and shows like it) will return to the indie that made it after a period, and they can then continue to sell it, which means C5 may pay less in the first place (as the indie knows it will regain sales rights and make money themselves from the show in the long term).

That won't be the case with Big Brother.

GPs is a fixed rig doc and IIRC the 8pm tariff is around £80k on average and they repeat the show in the daytime and also on My5 so they get a lot of value of it.

Ben Frow has said that BB will not return "in its current form" next year but doesn't go into what that means. He also says that after months of negotiating a budget for another series "the ball's in Endemol's court" which perhaps implies that C5 have offered their final take it or leave it price. I think the most likely option is that only the two celeb series will remain, assuming Endemol can still afford to make them.
