Daily Star is reporting Channel 5 have renewed Big Brother and Celebrity Big Brother. Considering Endemol Shine and Channel 5 sign 3 year contracts this means Big Brother will continue to be on our screens until 2021. However Channel 5 want to pay less for the show.

What a surprise......There cant ask to pay less for the celeb shows. That's where the money is made. The normal version well it's meh. Maybe they should just change it to two 4 week blocks instead like the celb version instead of draggin it out.

I agree it should be cut down. Even one Celebrity version a year is enough in my opinion. Maybe then they could make the budget bigger and get some good celebrities in there

It doesn’t work like that though. You don’t automatically have more to spend on something if you make less of it. Especially if it’s one of your most profitable programmes.

Also they either have or haven’t paid less for the show if they’ve signed the deal. They don’t sign the deal then decide what they pay.

Wasn't the Daily Star who also proudly announced that Channel 5 weren't renewing the rights a few weeks back too? Shows how reliable they are!

That is true. However it was a spokesperson for Channel 5 who confirmed it this time round

Just to note that the Daily Star also believe Gemma Collins is taking the lead role in the final series of Game of Thrones.

At a guess, BB/CBB has been recommissioned as they have nothing else up their sleeve to replace it which brings in those all important youth and female ratings for advertisers, even if they're dwindling.

I could be wrong and correct me if I am. But I’m pretty sure Big Brother is one of Channel 5’s biggest show. It’s not usual for the channel to air a show that gets over the 1M mark even Will & Grace which is a huge show in the US struggled to peak at half a million viewers

Also by far the most costly though and actually now rating at a level where other shows aren't that far behind. They may have less advertiser friendly audiences but with much lower costs are likely more profitable.

Not exactly, most of their prime time shows get over 1m now, less than that is a pretty average performance for them so they’re not struggling for shows that can rate decently for them. Although Big Brother is one of their bigger shows, probably still just about their biggest, it’s not rating significantly higher than their other shows which it used to. I’d be surprised if they went for another three more years of this as it’s sure only drop further. This series of CBB was pretty good but it must have been the lowest rated series.

I’m not sure that’s right, BB’s pretty cost effective as they get an awful lot of hours from it with one large team. I’m pretty sure it would be cheaper to produce one series of Big Brother than the numerous fact ent series that would have to fill those hours.
