To think that there was a time when the likes of Jack Dee, Claire Sweeney, Les Dennis and Sue Perkins were picked...

And you coudn't have picked 4 more boring housemates!

The White House thing was obviously for Stormy Daniels who pulled out as the show went to air

Not the first (or last) time that a single sentence has had cause to feature both of those word-pairings, I'm sure...

The celeb pool appears to be running well and truly dry. Even Strictly (the one everyone says they want to do) seems to be struggling this year, resorting to z-listers.

Apparently the reasons given for offering slots to a YouTube Creator and a local radio DJ are to attract younger audiences.

It's quite a smart decision. Truly trounce X Factor while they're down.

I wouldn’t say Strictly is Z listers, I’ve probably heard of more of the names than not which is more than can be said for CBB...

Just me that remembers highlights of classic CBB include dramatic events such as Melinda Messenger and Les Dennis having a game of Connect 4?! Very Happy

To be honest I think it doesn't really matter who Strictly have as it is established as a feel good Saturday night show that it will still be a massive show with 10 million plus viewers. They have said the line up has been the weakest for the last few years but the show goes from strength to strength.
DE88 and Lou Scannon gave kudos

Sadly either the horse has bolted from the BB stable and the show needs to be closed down or an extended hiatus for an extended time needs to happen. If it was to return it needs a complete revamp. Clearly this format no longer brings in the big audiences any more. IMO Ch4 and Ch5 put out waaaaaay too many series of the show frankly and saturated the viewers appetites for the show. Of course die hards will always love it. But the younger audiences are infatuated with the buzzy LoveIsland format. (Which incidently was bought by CBS and a US version will be produced soon, of course minus all the nudity and sex and cursing, its also likely that one of the Canadian networks will carry the CBS version as well)

One last hope I think is, rest Big Brother UK for a while, produce only one series a year and revamp the format and make it more of a competition-style programme in the vein of the North American format. The original social experiment format is done for sure. And the obvious stunt casting needs to end. They need to cast regular people instead of these wannabe famous people. BBUK has some of the best house designs (well they tie with BBCan), but they have to be mega expensive. If they could come with a more "cost effective" design and increase the prize money, that will increase the level of game play and strategy you see on the North American version. A version that continues to be a ratings success for CBS after 20 seasons. Just sayin'

Strange that you should say that - I thought this was a very solid lineup. I mean, Kirstie Alley is a huge signing, possibly their biggest ever and I'm genuinely interested to watch Nick Leeson. Ryan Thomas, Dan Osbourne and Psychic Sally are hardly unknowns. I think they've chosen a wise strategy: splash the cash over a few and then add a lot of filler. Their celebrity ranking doesn't always match their watchability anyway.

Maybe they should take that strategy to another level and do a celebrities v civilians series.

[Semantics indeed. If you leave a position against your intended wishes and they turn around and state you as having been "released" then it's just a play on words. You've essentially been sacked, and very much fired. It's just a disingenuous and creative way of saying it.

Just like your "creative" way of implying his alleged misconduct was sexual, mentioning "the current climate" in the same sentence as his dismissal/suspension/whatever.

They add too much filler and that is the issue - it brings down the overall quality of the line up. With just 5 eviction nights they Don't need 13-16 HMs - cut it down to 10 by trimming the extras and they'd have a better show.

Neither is Roxanne Pallett, she was in Emmerdale.
