'A round with Alliss... and maybe some golf'

One of the best jokes ever delivered by Rory Bremner, and Peter himself enjoyed that line enormously.

I think there's only Barry Davis and John Motson now left of 'the old guard' of BBC Sport commentators.

Night, Peter. Thanks for the great golf commentaries.

Murray Walker is still with us...

Did Peter commentate on last month's Masters for the Beeb ?

I loved Peter Alliss back in the day. He probably should have retired about 15 years ago though. Staying on too long tarnished his reputation and also damaged the BBC. The R&A took the Open away from them due to the fact the coverage hadn’t changed in decades and Alliss’ somewhat outdated opinions on certain topics.

Well the R&A are such a forward thinking organisation. Let's face it - money talked and anything else was just excuses. I didn't realise Peter Alliss was so old actually - thought he was at least a decade younger.
